Governor Spitzer to Force Catholic Institutions to Perform Abortions in New York State

From the Catholic Conference of New York State, one of the most heavily Catholic states in the nation comes this terrible news:

Governor Eliot Spitzer has put forth a radical abortion proposal that would go far beyond Roe vs. Wade. The Governor’s bill would:
• Force Catholic hospitals to allow abortions;• Force all insurance plans, including those of Catholic employers, to cover abortion; • Legalize abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, for virtually any reason;• Make abortion immune from any reasonable state regulation such as parental notification, informed consent, or restrictions on taxpayer funding;• Repeal current law that requires doctors to perform abortions and allow any "health care practitioner" to provide it.
Take action now and tell your lawmakers to oppose this extreme bill! For the sake of pregnant women and their unborn children, please take a minute to communicate your opposition to your state Senate and Assembly representatives.

Thank you and God bless you.

This is a frontal assault, not only on the Catholic Church, but on the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It is to prevent precisely this sort of thing that we got the First Amendment -- not to protect atheists from the unspeakable horrors of creches on public property or crosses in city seals.

Here is a nugget that exposes more of the hypocrisy of the pro-abort movement:

Repeal current law that requires doctors to perform abortions and allow any "health care practitioner" to provide it.

And here, all this time, I though legalized abortion was all about protecting women from back-alley abortions performed with coat hangers and vacuum cleaners! Further proof that the real purpose of legalizing abortion was never to vindicate the "rights" of women, but to keep abortionists out of prison.

Absolutely ludicrous! This is no longer about women's rights. This is about an agenda against life. Wow, I knew it was bad news when Spitzer was elected, but I didn't think it would be this bad.

The next step from here is forced abortions. If this bill is passed, the next movement would be to force a woman to have an abortion under certain circumstances. Scary, scary stuff.
