President Bush, in identical letters to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, wrote, “I will veto any legislation that weakens current federal policies and laws on abortion, or that encourages the destruction of human life at any stage.”Every child, he said, deserves life and the protection of the law.
“I am writing to make sure that there is no misunderstanding of my views on these important issues."
He affirmed that the U.S. was founded on the belief that every person has rights, dignity and matchless value. Medicine does not have to be in conflict with the ethical imperative to protect life.
