The Holy Father mentions the name of this blog
. . . in his Lenten Message. Read the rest of his message here. You didn't really think he read this blog, did you? Only in my dreams!
May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Causa nostrae laetitiae, accompany and support us in the effort to free our heart from slavery to sin, making it evermore a "living tabernacle of God."
With these wishes, while assuring every believer and ecclesial community of my prayer for a fruitful Lenten journey, I cordially impart to all of you my Apostolic Blessing.

The Holy Father's Christmas gift to the Church: The Inconvenient Truth
"In thousands of news articles and talk shows around the world today from Bulgaria to India, Pope Benedict XVI is being bashed for daring to say we should care as much for mankind as the tropical rainforests; that the harm caused by going against the Creator's plan for human sexuality is destructive and hurtful. In truth, he is being pilloried for having enough love to tell his brothers and sisters struggling with same-sex attraction, promiscuity, pornography, adultery and more, that their behavior is hurting them and society at large. It is hurting them physically, psychologically, but most importantly - hurting them spiritually. "Life Site News
When a father sees his beloved children committing moral suicide, he tells them. He tells them, knowing that they most likely will scoff at him, tell him to mind his own business, or possibly get downright abusive in return.
Such has happened to our beloved Pope Benedict in return for his wisdom on the sins of the flesh, which Our Lady of Fatima told the children a century ago, led more people to hell than any other. He is speaking the truth in love. And because truth is so obscured by the mainstream press, and hated by the world, the virulent reaction should as no surprise to us. It merely indicates the necessity of the warning; if we continue to spit at God's gift of married love, through extra marital sexual relations, we are sowing the seeds of not only our own destruction, but the downfall of Western Civilization. It happened to Rome.

And about the rainforests; they come under the same category as the liberal hypocrisy about smoking; these are mere distractions to make them seem morally righteous while they destroy their lives through promiscuity. And those of the poorly catechized Catholics who follow their lead. If you are dying of AIDS, quitting smoking won't save you, but a good confession will prepare you for eternity. That's why Mother Teresa and Cardinal O'Connor set up the first AIDS hospice in New York City in the 80's. Catholics not only speak the truth in love, but we pick up the pieces afterward when our brothers and sisters are suffering the physical, spiritual, and emotional devastation of disobeying God's laws. Cardinal O'Connor also set up a religious order, the Sisters of Life, to care for mothers in crisis pregnancies, and for victims of "choice", those suffering the trauma of post abortion syndrome.
Gay bashers we are not. Fr Paul Harvey and Fr Benedict Groeschel have organized "Courage" to help those with same-sex attraction overcome their addiction and lead chaste, happy lives full of wholesome relationships with man and God.
God bless Pope Benedict and the leaders of the Catholic Church and Pastor Rick Warren for daring to speak the truth on this crucial issue of our times. Let's do our best to support them in their mission to save humanity from itself, on the very feast of the birth of our Blessed Saviour.

Connecticut bishops on Homosexual Marriage Ruling
Reacting to today’s decision of the Connecticut Supreme Court on same-sex “marriage,” the Connecticut Catholic Conference, representing the Catholic bishops, clergy, religious, and laity of the State of Connecticut (more than 1.3 million people), issued the following statement:
The Catholic Bishops of Connecticut and the Connecticut Catholic Conference are extremely disappointed in this close 4-3 decision by the Connecticut Supreme Court which imposes the recognition of same-sex marriage upon the people of Connecticut. This decision is in direct conflict with the position of our state legislature and courts of other states and is a terribly regrettable exercise in judicial activism.
Four people have not just extended a supposed civil right to a particular class of individuals, but have chosen to redefine the institution of marriage. The Connecticut Supreme Court has taken upon itself to make a determination that other courts throughout our nation have felt should be made through the political process.
Courts in other states, with the exception of Massachusetts and California, have ruled that marriage is a special institution in our society, not a civil right, and chose not to redefine it. Those courts felt that altering this historical and special institution was a legislative matter, and should be left to elected officials and the people they represent.
It appears our State Supreme Court has forgotten that courts should interpret laws and legislatures should make laws. In its decision today, the Connecticut Supreme Court stated again their philosophy that “as we engage over time in the interpretation of our State Constitution, we must consider the changing needs and expectations of the citizens of our State.” Determining the “contemporary” views of the public is the responsibility of the legislature, not the judiciary.
In his dissent, Justice Peter Zarella makes the important and obvious point that “the majority fails, during the entire course of …. (this) … opinion, even to identify, much less to discuss, the actual purpose of the marriage laws, even though this is the first, critical step in any equal protection analysis.” The majority utterly failed to consider the relationship between the laws of marriage and family. As Justice Zarella maintains, “The ancient definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman has its basis in biology, not bigotry.”
The Supreme Court of Connecticut has chosen to ignore the wisdom of our elected officials, the will of the people, and historical social and religious traditions spanning thousands of years by imposing a social experiment upon the people of our state.

Connecticut Supreme Court OKs gay marriage
My new home state became the third in the nation to approve gay marriage.
I am so depressed about the stat of the nation, I don't watch the news anyore, I read my online source, and I blog. . .and pray!
The Family Institute of Connecticut, a political action group that opposes gay marriage, called the ruling outrageous.
"Even the legislature, as liberal as ours, decided that marriage is between a man and a woman," said executive director Peter Wolfgang. "This is about our right to govern ourselves. It is bigger than gay marriage."
Attorney General Richard Blumethal said the ruling will go into effect on Oct. 28, when it is implemented by action of the Superior Court. There will be no appeal, he said.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell said she disagreed with the ruling.

What we need is a moral bail out
This great post from Deacon Keith Fornier describes how the moral corruption led to economic collapse. All sin leads to ruin, and Wall Street is no exception; AIG big shots were on a multi-million dollar spa vacation in California the very week Congress gave them an expensive bail out package. According to the wisdom of Deacon Keith, it all comes down to the devaluing and com modification of the child.
When a society fails to recognize that persons are more important than things, when it loses sight of the primacy of the inviolable dignity of every single human person at every age, every stage and of every size, it soon devolves into a form of practical materialism, worshipping a new golden calf. It uses the language of human rights but has lost its true moral content. When there is no recognition of a preeminent right to life, there will soon be an erosion of the entire structure of human rights. Human rights do not exist in a vacuum; they are goods of the human person. This is why I absolutely insist that to be “Pro-Life” is NOT to be a political Partisan or a “single issue” voter. Rather, it is to be truly human and to recognize that there is a hierarchy of rights.

Pope Benedict: end 'conspiracy of silence' on abortion and divorce
Never mention three words in polite company. Jesus. Abortion. Divorce. It's considered impolite to discuss the Saviour of the world, and the two greatest causes of human suffering in the Western World.
"The Holy Father was addressing a group of scholars from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family at the Lateran University. The Institute was holding a several day long conference entitled "Oil on the Wounds: A Response to the Aftermath of Abortion and Divorce."
Benedict opened his remarks by congratulating the participants on their pertinent choice of topic, and said that when it comes to matters of abortion and divorce, and the wounds which they cause, there is a "conspiracy of silence" that often leaves victims "stripped and wounded" and "often without anyone to listen to their cry for help." Both abortion and divorce, he said, arise out of a civilization that is increasingly individualistic and hedonistic and that often fails to offer solidarity and support to those who are facing the difficult circumstances that lead people to choose abortion or divorce as a solution."
Jesus would not only metion abortion, and divorce, He would call the particpant victims to healing and reconciliation with His Church. And so must we as His followers. Interesting, that's precisely what I said to my CCD students this evening, in simpler terms. Nothing should separate us from the merciful love of Christ, least of all a conspiracy of silence from well meaning clerics. My own pastor refuses to have a Respect Life Group in our parish for fear of ugly discussions and hurt feelings. I have not been able to change his mind in 7 years. We are still part of the conspiracy of silence. I pray for him, and hope he hears the Holy Father's message here.
