When is speech to be considered a crime?

"The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act – H.R. 1592 in the House and S. 1105 in the Senate – would add federal penalties for crimes involving sexual orientation or gender identity, giving special protections comparable to that given race and religious belief."
“There’s a vote coming up on some insidious legislation in the United States Congress that could silence and punish Christians for their moral beliefs,” he said on his radio broadcast today. “That means that as a Christian – if you read the Bible a certain way with regard to morality – you may be guilty of committing a ‘thought crime."

I'm worried that not only will hate crimes legislation tell us what we can say, but who can say it. This sounds an ominous death knell for free speech and free exercise of religion in this country. World Net Daily has testimonies from both Europe and the USA of people arrested for voicing their Christian beliefs in a peaceful way.

It's not the first frontal assault on free speech. Remember campaign finance reform?

Yes, everyone but the pro-lifers seem to be doing an end-run around that ridiculous law!
This reminds me more of that phony invocation of the RICO anti-mafia statute that Clinton used to jail nuns and priests praying on the sidewalk in front of abortion mills. We are under attack, folks for our Christian beliefs! Be prepared!

Have you read the text of this bill?

NO, but the text means little; it's how it will be used!
