Univ Minnesota Prof Myers promises to desecrate the Eucharist

from the Catholic League
Paul Zachary Myers, a professor at the University of Minnesota Morris, has pledged to desecrate the Eucharist. He is responding to what happened recently at the University of Central Florida when a student walked out of Mass with the Host, holding it hostage for several days. Myers was angry at the Catholic League for criticizing the student. His post can be accessed from his faculty page on the university's website.

Here is an excerpt of his July 8 post, "It's a Frackin' Cracker!":
"Can anyone out there score me some consecrated communion wafers?" Myers continued by saying, "if any of you would be willing to do what it takes to get me some, or even one, and mail it to me, I'll show you sacrilege, gladly, and with much fanfare. I won't be tempted to hold it hostage (no, not even if I have a choice between returning the Eucharist and watching Bill Donohue kick the pope in the balls, which would apparently be a more humane act than desecrating a goddamned cracker), but will instead treat it with profound disrespect and heinous cracker abuse, all photographed and presented here on the web."

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:

"The Myers blog can be accessed from the university's website. The university has a policy statement on this issue which says that the "Contents of all electronic pages must be consistent with University of Minnesota policies, local, state and federal laws." One of the school's policies, "Code of Conduct," says that "When dealing with others," faculty et al. must be "respectful, fair and civil." Accordingly, we are contacting the President and the Board of Regents to see what they are going to do about this matter. Because the university is a state institution, we are also contacting the Minnesota legislature.

"It is hard to think of anything more vile than to intentionally desecrate the Body of Christ. We look to those who have oversight responsibility to act quickly and decisively."

Here is the Professor's offensive blog post and photo, with a thousand equally offensive comments following it. He had so many atheists who wanted to mock the Church, he had to open a new thread here.
If you can't handle heart-stopping blasphemy, don't read this, I feel sick with disgust and worry for the eternal destiny of those who commented and for Professor Meyer.
Acts of reparation and much prayer are sorely needed, Catholics to overcome the depths of evil in that post.
If you want to protest this outrage, you may contact

What a coward. If he had any guts he would threaten to desecrate a Koran instead. But he won't, because he knows what would happen.

My sentiments exactly, Patrick. You should see the anti-Catholic vitriol oozing from the comments on his blog.

Another ignorant 'intellectual'. I am not surprised. We should pray for him and others led by him. The Divine Praises come to mind.

Umm, Patrick? It does contradict your stance a bit to say he should be respectful of Catholicism, but should desecrate a Koran.

If I may, I'll summarize the anti-Catholic vitriol (in terms I think would be acceptable for this blog):

The Catholics are crazy for believing this wafer literally turns into God, and shouldn't be making death threats or ruining people's lives over it.

A lot of the rest is creative variations on that theme, jokes, reactions to BD's commentary, etc.

I am sure that Patrick would never condone anyone's sacred object be desecrated,he was merely making a point, and if you weren't trying so hard to pick a fight, you's acknowlege that, Crypticlife.
BTW, why are you hiding your profile? I suspect that you are the ofenssive professor incognito.

Leticia-

Myers had a link to my blog on this vile post. For the last 3 days I have been having more than one thousand atheists visit my blog, and post some of the most disgusting things you would ever read. This is Myers' world, the demonic.

I am hoping that I catch a few souls on my blog, with God's grace.

It was an eye-opener for me that this many of this type of people exist in our midst. Pray to the Blessed Mother for protection of our children.

In a side note, Webster's father posted again on my blog. He still does not get it.

All I keep thinking of is "God will not be mocked" and I get a sudden fear of what His reaction to this might be, followed by a distinct need to pray for this poor depraved man's soul. Hopefully something stops him (a Paul-like revelation, maybe?) before he pulls this stunt.

Leticia,

I simply wasn't sure of that. Keep in mind that holding that the wafer is actually the body of God is incomprehensible to me also, so I don't want to make assumptions on what people believe.

Please also note that if I had been "itching" for a fight I probably wouldn't have taken care to refer to it as a wafer (which I think is the correct term), or to capitalize "God" and "Catholic". PZ has rather consistently referred to it as a cracker, which belies your suspicion that I am the professor. I am not. My concealing my profile has nothing to do with you.

There are Catholics demanding Cook's expulsion and prosecution, and some making threats of violence or murder, and did result in a woman assaulting him. Non-believers tend to find this more reprehensible than the so-called most "vile" crime imagineable, "stealing" the Eucharist (it is rather questionable whether it can be termed stealing in any legal sense). It is, in many respects, similar to being sentenced to death for naming a teddy bear, "Mohammed".

So ironic that the Catholic Eucharist has provided the atheist Myers with, in a few days, what he evidently couldn’t provide for himself over a few decades of rigorous study--recognition.

LOL!! He's finally getting his five minutes of fame.
