The Difference between old and new Catholics

Thomas J Craughwell writes a perceptive article in the American Spectator, entitled "Bishop, I Have the Pope on Line One", on the dichotomy between liberal and traditional Catholics.

There's quite a bit of irony in the quoted remarks of one of the French bishops: "One cannot simply erase Vatican II with the stroke of a pen." One could, and did, erase the long tradition of the Tridentine Mass in 1969 with the Novus Ordo Missae with little more than that.

People who tell us not to worry about rampant liturgical abuse are very fond of telling us that the Church works slowly, that the gates of Hell will not prevail against it, and so on. But it seems that when Vatican II was hijacked in the late 60's, the Church showed that it can move very fast indeed.

Downhill.
