I'm nearly ready to forgive him for supporting Kansas Governor Sibelius for HHS Secretary.

Fr Eueteneuer shines the moral spotlight in Kansas
Brownback - Turncoat
I am not a politician, I am a priest. So I would like to give my priestly perspective about the recent endorsement of Senator Sam Brownback for the candidacy of Kathleen Sebelius for Secretary of Health and Human Services: Senator Brownback's cowardly betrayal of his Catholic faith is even more damaging than his political permission for this renegade to take office.
The situation is atrocious. An extremist abortion hack (called the most pro-abortion governor in the nation by many), who falsely calls herself "Catholic," is given the opportunity to preside over the nation's healthcare system and normalize abortion even further; this radical is then endorsed by a US senator who also calls himself "Catholic" and who, many believe, wants her job back home when she becomes the abortion queen in DC.
With pro-lifers like Senator Sam Brownback, who needs pro-aborts?
Moral theologians can work out what level of cooperation in evil the Senator's endorsement represents - he is, after all, an influential senator whose opposition, if he had given it, may very well have stopped her nomination. Yet, those of us who do not breathe the rarified air of Washington DC and who have dedicated our lives to defending the sanctity of human life understand one thing: any covenant with the abortion industry or its promoters is consent to the killing.
As a convert to the Catholic Faith, Senator Brownback seems not to understand the Church's profoundly wounded heart with regard the slaughter of the innocents. The Church tells us never to participate in that slaughter, no matter what the cost; we do not give aid and comfort to the enemies of human life, we do not stand by while the innocent are being dragged off to a violent murder, and under no circumstances do we endorse the political aspirations of their executioners.
Politicians who sell the lives of babies for political gains are the worst kind of turncoats.Yet, this Catholic Senator's decision constitutes, I think, a watershed moment for all of us who want to see an end to the immoral industry of baby-killing in our country. We will never be served by the compromise of our principles in any form. Catholicism is the solution to this culture of death. If only Catholics ourselves would fully live up to our doctrine and put it into practice, there would be no "Tiller the Killer"s in Kansas, no partial birth abortions, no immoral sex education in the schools or Planned Parenthoods dominating our public life.
Self-described "Catholics" like Brownback (in politics), Doug Kmiec (in academia), Hannity, Matthews and O'Reilly (in media) and others are not the solution to the problem - they are enablers of the problem. Despite their high-sounding lip service to the culture of life, they are compromisers. They will never end abortion because they don't want to end abortion.I have often said that false Catholics, whether they be Cardinals, politicians or janitors, are the ones who have the most to account for on the Day of Judgment when they will have to account for ignoring Christ in His "least brethren," the unborn. Whether through advocacy of the evil (like Sebelius) or negligence in stopping it (like Brownback), they have blood on their hands. They've been given everything the Church has to offer: the teaching, the sacraments, the example of the saints and the grace to stand against Satan and all his works and all his empty promises. In other words, they know better, and the Biblical warning applies to them: "To whom much has been given, much will be required."

It hurts to have pro-life heroes in Congress. Ony a month after my group KIDS gave the Senator a pro-life award for his work on the "Prenatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act" he does this; striking a mortal blow to pro-life opposition to Gov Sebelius's nomination.
What are you thinking, Sen Brownback? Do you want her out of your way so you can become governor or Kansas? Isn't there any way to do this without selling out your pro-life ideals and your newfound Catholic faith?

Host Chris Matthews calls pro-life opposition to Sebelius "verbal terrorism."
Washington, DC - MSNBC's Chris Matthews discussed the nomination of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' to the post of Secretary of health and Human Services yesterday, asking Jonathan Martin of Politico, if he believed that she would survive the "verbal terrorism" of her pro-life opposition.
Martin responded, "I think she will, for one important reason. Sam Brownback, her home state senator, an ardent Catholic pro-lifer, Chris, has said kind things about her, signaling that he will not stand in her way. So if that's any, sort of indication I think that bodes well for Sebelius." (VIEW VIDEO)
"It is unimaginable that a Catholic pro-lifer such as Sen. Brownback would support Sebelius' nomination to a post where she can advance her extremist abortion agenda on the national level. There is so much documentation of her ardent support of indicted late-term abortionist George Tiller that is hard to believe that the Senator from Kansas is simply ignorant of her record. We pray that Mr. Martin's information is in error," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
"We at Operation Rescue are urging our supporters to contact Sen. Brownback's office and ask for confirmation on this story," said Newman. "Our own calls to his office have been met with equivocation. We believe that the people have a right to know the truth on when the Senator stands."
Sebelius' nomination has been opposed by a growing number of pro-life groups for her associations with the radical arm of the abortion lobby and because of her cozy connections to late-term abortion abortionist George R. Tiller, who is scheduled for trial on 19 criminal charges of committing illegal abortions.
"As for Matthews' bigoted comments attacking our deep convictions that Sebelius is unfit to serve based on her close connections to numerous abortion scandals really tells us a lot about his basic lack of compassion for the weak and vulnerable," said Newman. "His obvious hatred for the cause of life makes him a pathetic person, and we pray for him."

Senators Brownback and Kennedy celebrate the passage of their bill

U.S. Senators Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA)celebrated Senate passage of the Pre-natally and Post-natally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act, legislation which would require that families who receive a diagnosis of Down syndrome or any other condition, pre-natally or up until a year after birth, be given up-to-date information about the nature of the condition and connection with support services and networks that could offer assistance.
"I am very pleased that the legislation co-sponsored by Sen. Kennedy and me passed the Senate," said Brownback. "This bill will greatly benefit expecting parents who receive the sometimes overwhelming news that their unborn child may be born with a disability. This legislation will provide parents with current and reliable information about the many options available for caring for children with disabilities." The Pre-natally and Post-natally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act would provide for the expansion and further development of a national clearinghouse on information for parents of children with disabilities, so that the clearinghouse would be better equipped to assist parents whose children have recently been pre- or post-natally diagnosed. The bill also provides for the expansion and further development of national and local peer-support programs. The bill also calls for the creation of a national registry of families willing to adopt children with pre- or post-natally diagnosed conditions.
"One of the hardest moments in the life of an expectant mother is when she receives news that she is going to have a child with special needs," said Melissa Wagoner, spokeswoman for Senator Kennedy. "Access to the best support and information about the condition, and the quality of life for a child born with that conditio
n, can make all the difference to a woman trying to make an informed and difficult decision. Senator Kennedy believes this kind of support is a vital element to strengthening a true culture of life in America."
Currently, 90 percent of children pre-natally diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted. That percentage is similar for children pre-natally diagnosed with other conditions such as spina bifida, cystic fibrosis and dwarfism.

Senator Brownback DID introduce the bill yesterday for an unanimous vote (if any one Senator objected, the bill was not approved) and the lone vote of protest was Sen Bernie Sanders of VT. He is in the tank for Harry Reid who wants this now popular (thanks Trig Palin) bill to be attached to his omnibus spending bill.

The Trig Effect
No, it's not tri
gonometry, it's far more powerful. It's the effect that the beautiful innocent countenance of a baby with Trisomy 21 has had on the world. Politicians and pundits, doctors and journalists are all a flutter trying to keep the lid on the dirty little secret: from 90 to 94% of these children are killed before they are born.
We in the prolife community have know this for decades, and have been fighting this trend. We have had formidable opponents; from The March of Dimes who sponsors research into 'search and destroy' methods for prenatal diagnosis to the AMA and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists who recommend, no, INSIST on mandatory prenatal testing for all women, to the misinformed genetic counselors who scare parents into aborting these children. We can now add to this side Dr Andre Lalonde, head of the Canadian who feels that Trig is causing trouble for women who might get the idea that allowing their babies with Trisomy 21 to live poses a grave threat to abortion. You got that right, Dr. Lalonde!
We who love someone with 47 chromosomes have done battle with all of these, armed with only the power of the internet. We have seen the Kennedy Brownback Bill, which would inform expectant parents of the truth, used as a pawn in a political tug of war this summer, and be defeated without serious consideration. We have seen our children mocked by Hollywood films like "Tropic Thunder". We have cried while millions of children like those we love die before their parents can experience the joy they would have brought into their lives.
But, the tide is turning towards a new understanding of the intrinsic worth of the individual with Down syndrome by the simple fact that Gov. Sarah Palin unapologetically chose to give birth to her son Trig. Actions speak louder than words. It's . . .

We have had formidable opponents; from The March of Dimes who sponsors research into 'search and destroy' methods for prenatal diagnosis to the AMA and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists who recommend, no, INSIST on mandatory prenatal testing for all women, to the misinformed genetic counselors who scare parents into aborting these children. We can now add to this side Dr Andre Lalonde, head of the Canadian who feels that Trig is causing trouble for women who might get the idea that allowing their babies with Trisomy 21 to live poses a grave threat to abortion. You got that right, Dr. Lalonde!
We who love someone with 47 chromosomes have done battle with all of these, armed with only the power of the internet. We have seen the Kennedy Brownback Bill, which would inform expectant parents of the truth, used as a pawn in a political tug of war this summer, and be defeated without serious consideration. We have seen our children mocked by Hollywood films like "Tropic Thunder". We have cried while millions of children like those we love die before their parents can experience the joy they would have brought into their lives.
But, the tide is turning towards a new understanding of the intrinsic worth of the individual with Down syndrome by the simple fact that Gov. Sarah Palin unapologetically chose to give birth to her son Trig. Actions speak louder than words. It's . . .

The Battle Continues
By a vote of 52-40, the Senate voted on Monday, July 28 against proceeding to debate on S. 3297, the Advancing America's Priorities Act, which bundled together the Prenatal and Postnatal Diagnosis Conditions Awareness Act (known as the Kennedy-Brownback bill) and many other bills into one piece of legislation. Unfortunately, we fell eight votes short of the 60 that were required for the Senate to begin consideration of S. 3297.
This does not mean that the bill is dead. We need you to remain vigilant and hopeful.
This session of Congress is not over.
We still have an opportunity to pass S. 3297 this year so it's absolutely critical that yesterday's disappointment not deter us from our goal. Our work will continue when Congress returns from its summer recess in September. Yesterday's vote was not a reflection of lack of support for the Kennedy-Brownback legislation. Indeed, the bill was reported out favorably in a bipartisan vote by the Senate Health Education Labor Pensions (HELP) Committee. Unfortunately, S. 3297 and the Kennedy-Brownback legislation became caught up in broader disagreements between political parties about matters not related to Kennedy-Brownback. Election year politics are having an impact on every issue debated by the Senate. Just as I said in my post.
Our efforts will continue. We all agree about the importance of this legislation and will let you know when your advocacy efforts will be the most timely and effective.

Kennedy Brownback Bill dies in Senate
I am devastated to report that the Kennedy Brownback bill which would have given much needed information to parents whose unborn children have a disability, including referrals to adoption agencies, and support groups, was killed in the Senate today. I had great hopes that this bill would reduce the 90% abortion rate of disabled children whose condition is diagnosed before birth.

National Down Syndrome Congress and NDSS have been following this bill, the “Prenatally and Postnatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act,” S. 1810, since its introduction in 2005 and successfully promoted improved language that was included in the latest version which was introduced in July, 2007. We have been informed by Senate staff members that Senator Edward Kennedy (D.MA) and Senator Sam Brownback (R.KS) are scheduling a briefing for the other members of the Senate Health Education Labor Pensions (HELP) Committee on January 16, 2008, the second day of the next Congressional session.
The HELP committee has jurisdiction over this bill.After this briefing, a date for a “mark-up” has been scheduled for January 23rd. The mark-up is a process that takes place in committee when a piece of legislation is analyzed section by section and changes are made, if necessary. Generally, the bill then can be brought to the floor for a vote or attached to another piece of legislation that is moving through Congress. Throughout the various stages, Governmental Affairs staff members will be closely monitoring the proposed legislation.
NDSC and NDSS are working closely with congressional staff members to facilitate the movement of the legislation. Please pay close attention to future recommendations for action made in Newslines and Alerts. The timeliness of your advocacy efforts at that point will be critical. We will keep readers informed so the membership can advocate at a time when their contacts will have the greatest impact.

Senators Brownback and Vittier call for end to federal funds for abortions
BROWNBACK CALLS FOR SUSPENSION OF FEDERAL FUNDING FOR ABORTIONS WASHINGTON :U.S. Senators Sam Brownback (R-KS) and David Vitter(R-LA) today sent a letter to Senator Tom Harkin, Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human ServicesAppropriations, and Representative David Obey, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, calling for the suspension of federal funding of abortion.
In addition to Brownback and Vitter, the following senators signedthe letter: Senators Jim Bunning (R-KY), John Barrasso (R-WY),Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), Mike Enzi (R-WY), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), JamesInhofe (R-OK), Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Trent Lott (R-MS), Mel Martinez(R-FL), Pat Roberts (R-KS), and John Thune (R-SD). Following is full text of the letter. "We write to urge you to suspend funding in all future Labor, Healthand Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies Appropriationsbills for organizations that promote abortion. While an amendment tothis effect was not adopted in the U.S. Senate last month, we believerecent findings warrant such a suspension pending furtherinvestigation."
One recipient of such funding is the Planned Parenthood Federation of America which receives more than $300 million in taxpayer fundingeach year. According to a 107-count complaint filed in Kansas' Johnson County District Court two weeks ago, Planned Parenthood isaccused of performing illegal late-term abortions in violation ofstate law. It is also accused of falsifying documents and failing tocomply with medical reporting requirements."Unfortunately this is just one example of a troubling trend. Too often we hear about negligent medical practice or inadequate reporting from abortion clinics that lack sufficient oversight. One of the many reasons to withhold federal funding from groups thatpromote abortion are these troubling accusations of negligent medical practice. Most recently, amendment S.A.3330 to H.R.3043, the Labor,Health and Human Services Appropriations bill would have correctedthis problem by denying federal funding to groups that promoteabortion.
"While amendment S.A.3330 was not adopted by the Senate, we believe an amendment to that effect should be reconsidered in the futuregiven this troubling evidence of wrongdoing and neglectful medicalpractice. While we continue to have a rigorous debate in this countryabout abortion, we should be able to come to some fundamental agreements. We should not use tax dollars to subsidize abortion clinics " particularly when there are serious concerns regarding their compliance with state law and medical standards.

Dr Alveta King rejected in Iowa School as "too moral"
Last fall, I blogged about the unforgettable speech of Dr. Alveta King at Nassau Community College. Not only did she discuss the hurt abortion had caused in her personal life, but we discussed how the black community has the highest abortion rate in the nation. Nearly 80% of abortion mills are located in minority communities. When a young black man objected to this being termed genocide, he was referred to the website blackgenocide.org, which explains the racist agenda behind Planned Parenthood.That's where the Planned Parenthood is located which will be the focus of 40 Days for Life on Long Island.
Speaking this kind of truth doesn't sit well with Principal Kathie Danielson in Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa; she cancelled Dr. King's speech, because a couple of pro-abortion parents objected to morality being discussed in school.She told the Des Moines Register newspaper that she examined King's presentation beforehand and "quite a bit of it does talk about civil rights, but there is a connection to morals."
Presidential Candidate Sam Brownback came to Dr King's defense."Defending the life of innocents is the most basic civil right, and I am proud to support Dr. Alveda King and her efforts on the pro-life issue, civil rights and helping people in need," Brownback said. This is not surprising, he's an ardent champion of the rights of the unborn.
What is shocking, however, the ACLU objected to the cancelled speech as well.
ACLU representative Ben Stone told the Register that Danielson is doing a "disservice" because it makes the school appear to be shielding its students from various viewpoints on abortion.
Danielson "does the students of Roosevelt High School a disservice when she decides she must protect them from viewpoints that are controversial," Stone said.
"Alveda King was invited to speak, and telling her to stay away now is wrong, for it implies that the school is taking sides on the abortion issue, while at the same time depriving students of an opportunity to engage in this important moral topic," Stone said.
The ACLU came down on the side of free speech for pro-lifers, incredible!
This is why her talks for "Silent No More" are so important, most blacks, though pro-life, vote for pro-abortion candidates according to this poll. They vote over 90% Democrat, which is nearly always pro-abortion.

The Ultrasound Informed Consent Act
From Family Research CouncilA picture may be worth a thousand words, but Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kans.) believes that it could also be worth thousands of lives. Yesterday, Brownback, one of the Senate's biggest pro-life champions, introduced a bill called the Ultrasound Informed Consent Act with co-sponsors Sens. Norm Coleman (Minn.), Jim Inhofe (Okla.), Mel Martinez (Fla.), John Thune (S.D.) and David Vitter (La.). Similar to what several states are debating, this bill would require doctors to perform ultrasounds and share those images with any women considering an abortion. Although no woman would be forced to view the ultrasound, she would have the opportunity to make the most informed decision possible. For that reason, even the most militant pro-abortion senators should lend their support to Brownback's bill. It's not just pro-life, it's pro-woman. The legislation would use cutting-edge technology to give moms-to-be a window into the humanity of their unborn children. When confronted with the palpable personhood of their babies, research shows that many women reconsider their "choice" to abort. Others are inspired to cease risky behaviors related to alcohol, smoking, and bad diet. While the legislation doesn't address abortion directly, it's certainly an effective way to reduce the number of them--a goal every American can support.
But don't be shocked when the pro-aborts start talking about the unfairness of women being coerced into viewing, gasp, their own children! Who said they were interested in women's health, and freedom of choice? Those are simply the buzz words they use to cover the pro-death agenda. Why else would the "Pre-natally and Post-natally Diagnosed Conditions Act" be stuck somewhere in committee? What on earth could be wrong with letting women know the whole truth about the diagnosis of their unborn child?
Abortion, is first and foremost, a business. Today the Gospel reminded us, "you cannot serve God and Mammon (money), you will love one and hate the other". Those who serve the abortion industry have given over their souls to the love of money, which leads to death. Pray for them.

GOP Presidential Race described as "wide-open"
If Rasmussen says there is 'no clear frontrunner' then conservative bloggers should take heart. Over 60% of the Republican Party is conservative, and pundit Dick Morris says that the bloggers will have a say in who their party choses for the nomination. That gives the pro-lifers one last shot to unseat Guiliani from the top tier of candidates, and replace him and Romney with a true pro-lifer like Brownback, or Huckabee.
If you don't act now, you will not be permitted to whine in November of 2008. Get the candidates' opinions on abortion published on your blog! Polls show that most Catholics don't realize just how pro-abortion Rudy Guiliani is. Those of us who are Catholics against Rudy know there is no demonstrable difference between candidate Guiliani and Clinton on abortion or so-called "gay rights".
The Value Voters Summit debate had candidates agreeing on abortion. At least those who attended. Notably absent were: Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, John McCain and Fred Thompson, the frontrunners who didn't want their compromised stands on abortion made public.

Boxer fights Brownback for oversees abortions
As expected, yesterday's Senate votes over the 2008 Foreign Operations spending bill turned into an abortion showdown over the inclusion of the Mexico City policy. Although the policy--which bars the U.S. from funding any organization that performs or promotes overseas abortion--dates back to the Reagan years, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) led the charge to abolish it. In the end, her efforts to strip the Mexico City policy from the bill prevailed by a 53-41 vote. Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kans.) responded quickly with an amendment of his own to strike the language, but it failed by the same 12-vote margin. Unfortunately, Boxer's amendment is considered even more extreme than the House version. In keeping with his promise, President Bush yesterday reminded Senate liberals that theirs is not the final word on the Mexico City policy. The White House issued a statement renewing the President's vow to veto any bill that weakens America's laws on abortion. We applaud President Bush for consistently putting innocent human life first--even when it means postponing legislation that his administration wants passed.

Although the media seem intent on downplaying the influence of social conservatives in the upcoming election, a recent poll by Fabrizio McLaughlin Associates points to just how misled those assumptions are. The study, "An Elephant Looks in the Mirror 10 Years Later," discussions the transformation of the Republican Party in the last 10 years and makes the statistical case that not
only do values issues play a key role in the GOP platform, but values voters make up 51% of the party. Twenty-seven percent, by their classification, are "focused" on moral issues--and another 24%, the "Moralists," have a "laser-like focus" on moral issues. The reality is, a majority of the GOP are values voters. For candidates to ignore these social issues is for them to ignore the single-largest group in the Republican Party. They do so at their own risk. The reason Rudy Giuliani (R) continues to do well in polling data is that most Americans don't know where he stands on these issues. However, where voters perceive him to stand in his faith is another survey altogether. The Pew Forum's latest poll found that the statistical front-runners in both parties, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Rudy Giuliani (R), are both considered the "least religious" by those surveyed. On the other hand, Gov. Mitt Romney (R) is considered "very religious" by 46%, followed by Sen. John McCain (R) at 18%.
Interestingly, the poll didn't account for all candidates, which excludes those whom many would view as the most religious, including Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kans.) and Gov. Mike Huckabee (R). In the end, though, most voters would agree that how important the candidates' faith seems to be isn't half as important as how closely they live by it
Let's hope that Sam Brownback's participation in the Values Voter's Summit with Mitt Romney provides some eye-opening contrast on who truly lives their faith. Let's hope that Sean Hannity is able to re-discover his Catholicism there, and stop supporting Guiliani.

In this video taken at the Blogs for Life Conference on January 22, 2007, Senator Brownback is defending the right to life of the disabled child, and mentions meeting Christina earlier at the Conference.He backed up his position recently by re-introducing the Prenatally and Post-natally Diagnosed Conditions Act with Senator Kennedy. This bill requires that mothers who are expecting a child with an anomaly be given up-to-date information on the prognosis and lifestyle of these children, as well as contact information for support groups.
Since I found it hard to hold a video camera and keep track of the whereabouts of my daughter, I am grateful to whomever submitted this video to Prolife Blogs.

News: Senators Kennedy and Brownback reintroduce prolife bill to Senate
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA) today reintroduced the Pre-natally and Post-natally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act, legislation which would require that families who receive a diagnosis of Down syndrome or any other condition, pre-natally or up until a year after birth, will be given up-to-date information about the nature of the condition and connection with support services and networks that could offer assistance.
Those of us who advocate for the rights of the unborn, as well as for the rights of people with Down syndrome have been preparing for this. I see us organizing a welcome kit to parents expecting a child with Down syndrome, containing the book Gifts, the DVD Mr Blue Sky, my upcoming book, and lists of national and local Down syndrome advocacy groups, as well as pre-natal support groups like Be Not Afraid.net and Pre-natal Partners for Life. This support will also include contact information of parents like me, who can honestly tell what raising a child with Down Syndrome is like, for example read my piece, "A Special Mother is Born" published in May/June Faith and Family magazine on the birth of my daughter Christina.
