Why Santorum is a lightning rod and a savior

It is painfully clear why the liberal left hates Rick Santorum; its his stand on moral issues. But where does that visceral hatred originate? It goes way beyond partisanship, to deep emotional wounds which are the consequences of the very sexual immorality he opposes.Otherwise there would be opposition to him but not hatred. And sadly I don't believe its limited to the left. I think millions of Republicans have hatred for him because he occupies the high moral ground which they have ceded to the culture of death and they, instead of seeking healing by supporting him, are trying to silence his voice.

Most of this is a result of the pain caused by abortion. It is said that forty percent of women have had an abortion in the USA, many of them repeat abortions. This is creating untold, unspoken, buried suffering in millions of women and men, and it makes me angry. I am not so angry at those who have had abortions, many of them were lied to, told there was no baby, it would not affect them any more than an appendectomy, that their problems would be solved, or in the case of special needs children, that they were being good parents and sparing their children suffering. I am angry at those whose livelihood require perpetuating this lie. Like the Planned Parenthood reps who invaded the public high schools in minority neighborhoods where I taught to encourage sexual promiscuity with a wink, knowing that such activity would lead these youths into the abortion mill where Planned Parenthood makes its living. According to an article in the Star Exponent on Bella Santorum and abortion;

British Journal of Psychiatry contains the research findings of Prof. Priscilla Coleman, Ph.D. of Bowling Green State University entitled, “Abortion and mental health: quantitative synthesis and analysis of research published 1995–2009”.
Dr. Coleman concludes that: “Based on data extracted from 22 studies, the results of this meta-analytic review of the abortion and mental health literature indicate quite consistently that abortion is associated with moderate to highly increased risks of psychological problems subsequent to the procedure…Overall, the results revealed that women who had undergone an abortion experienced an 81% increased risk of mental health problems"

So many Republicans have not been living up to those moral ideals held by Santorum, and are suffering the regret and denial which post-abortive women and men suffer, but instead of seeking healing, they are shooting the messenger, moral issue candidate Rick Santorum with a long, faithful marriage and eight children (one of whom Gabriel has left this world for heaven). Most of his fellow Catholics are using forbidden contraception, and hate Santorum for correctly stating that is is the cause of abortion in this nation. The great majority of abortions are performed on women whose contraception has failed, in fact the Supreme Court used our dependence on contraception as an excuse for abortion according to Professor Janet Smith;

Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the recent Supreme Court decision that confirmed Roe v. Wade, stated, "in some critical respects abortion is of the same character as the decision to use contraception . . . . for two decades of economic and social developments, people have organized intimate relationships and made choices that define their views of themselves and their places in society, in reliance on the availability of abortion in the event that contraception should fail."

So, I firmly believe that there is a large, but silent group of Republicans and Catholics who know Santorum is right on abortion and marriage but that to endorse him would mean they would have to face their own moral failures, choose instead to support Newt whose serial adulteries and three marriages make them feel more comfortable or Mitt whose liberal past makes his protestations of moral conservatism laughable.

Rush Limbaugh once said, after Bill Clinton was elected that we get the candidate we deserve. He was referring to Clinton's addictive womanizing which he covered up by perjury which brought on his impeachment, and lowered the moral tone of the nation. My homeschooled Catholic children know what oral sex is thanks to Bill Clinton. Now we have a president who is mandating birth control coverage by Catholic institutions, and soon abortions will be forced upon them as well either causing them to cave in and cease being a light in the darkness or close their doors. Obama had a slight majority of the Catholic vote, and useful Catholic idiots like Biden, Pelosi, Doug Kmiec and Chris Matthews on his side. Once again, we got the immoral president we deserve.

Do we deserve Rick Santorum? Perhaps not, but I have hope that the Obama Administration's arrogance and recent overreaching may yet awakened the sleeping giant of Catholic conscience, and remind us that the only candidate who reflects our all important moral values was just off the campaign trail to be at his daughter Bella Maria's bedside in the hospital this weekend.

We are at a crossroads. This may be our last chance to try and regain the family structure and moral stability on which American was built. We cannot afford the social programs required by the social and economic chaos created by the rampant promiscuity in America :welfare, prisons, subsidized contraception and abortion, and food stamps to replace responsible, married love and solid moral character supported by good parenting.Rush Limbaugh in a transcript from his show, admits Santorum is right on the link between social and economic issues.

I have the greatest admiration for Santorum. He had a statement or debate, somebody, a think tank person, Brookings or whatever, something like three things -- it might not have been Brookings, but some think tank -- three things you could do that take care of income inequality, that take care of cultural rot, and they were all family-oriented type issues, and one of them was don't have kids before you get married. It's amazing when you look at the numbers of single-parent households, out of wedlock births. If you look at that definition, if you accept it as a sign of the disintegration of culture, the family breakup, it is amazing. Santorum is right.

Santorum offers us a way out; support the family and restore moral, civil and financial order. Are we wise enough and moral enough to take him up on it?

Dr James Dobson endorses Rick Santorum for president

The Rick Santorum for President campaign is proud to announced that Rick Santorum has received the endorsement of Dr. James Dobson.

This should be a game changer for Santorum in South Carolina, Dr Dobson's endorsement is key to family values advocates like me who raised my family listening to "Focus on the Family". I hope that South Carolina voters can hear Dr Dobson's call for a restoration of the American family amid the cacaphony of media chatter. If not, we may be at the point of no return as a society, as we descend further into economic and social chaos. We may be on the downward trajectory which destroys all great civilizations, moral laxity.  Our leaders fed our appetites with bread and circuses, and fiddled like Nero while Rome burned down around us.

The dollars and sense of social problems

This is the article which I  have been waiting for; and its from Phyllis Schlafly of course. Those who consider themselves fiscal conservatives but want the Republican Party to drop it's platform supporting family values  do not know what they are talking about; you cannot divorce social problems from the finanical crisis we find ourselves in. There is a reason millions of single mothers depend on the government to support their chilidren; our government has been undermining marriage and personal responsibility for generations.
The costs in dollars of supporting, ediucating, disciplining the children abandoned by their fathers is crippling the economy, and leading to the ruin of Western society. President Bush's attempts to encourage marriage were met with a liberal chorus of complaint. How dare he impose marriage on American women!
Marriage which has tragically been eschewed by increasing numbers of women who are having babies without marrying their 'fiances' (new term for boyfriend who is sticking around for a while but not willing to marry the mother of his children). They are sowing the seeds for their own destruction, but they don't know it.
Marriage is a gift of God to women and children, without it, they face the worst society has to offer; penury, loneliness, abuse and neglect. Men fare better in marriage as well, they live longer and behave better, but no fault divorce and changing societal mores have decimated their role.
Schlafly said,
"The decline of marriage is not only the biggest social problem America faces today, but it's also government's biggest financial problem."


It goes for those who tried to do the right thing, but found themselves single parents against their will.
Look at the case of my friend Kristin whose ex-husband has appeared in court for three years, without paying one penny of child support for his ten children, who face foreclosure, yet he boldly demands his rights to see his children while welfare supports them. He lies repeatedly about his income and so far he had not been arrested for non payment of over $70,000 of child support. He works for the Census, but the government can't garnish his wages. He is the worst deadbeat dad I have ever seen, yet nothing is done by the courts. They side with him, and call the struggling mother unfit, putting her on trial.
If my friend weren't the upstanding Catholic mother she is, those children could be at great risk to be high school dropouts who are getting pregnant, taking drugs, and committing crimes. Instead, her son is entering the North American College to study for the priesthood, and her next oldest is in college, working as a grave digger to help support his family as he completes college two years early. She has homeschooled them so well that the boys entered college at 15 knowing Latin and Greek. Her younger children are innocent, faithful Catholics who are living well in what is truly an abyssmal situation.Kristin is a hero the likes of which are rarely seen today. My hat is off to her.  The single mother I saw last night at the movies smoked cigarettes with her boyfriends hands all over her while her three toddlers ran around the parking lot at 9PM. She barely noticed them, she was so intent on having her emotional needs met. In two years, these children will most likely be wreaking havoc in their elementary school and there will be school psychologists putting letter after their name to explain what happened to them by lack of parenting. I saw it as a teacher whose high school students had a third grade reading level and sold crack for a living. When I attempted to contact their parents, whoever answered the phone didn't even recognize the child's name. This is the tragic legacy of single parenthood. These children will be raised by the state at our expense.
Norway recognizes this cost, a mother is paid $400 a month to stay home with her children, since that nation recognizes the role of mothers in preventing costly social chaos. Rather than pay mother to stay, let us keep our money, give us tax breaks for doing the right thing and raising our own children to be responsible citizens, caring for their famlies, studying and learning professsions. Let us keep our Judeo-Christian morality which teaches us how to treat others with respect and control our baser impulses. This happens within the context of the family, and if Republicans cannot realize it, they would better off becoming Democrats who leave responsiblity to Big Brother.

Queen of England relates to Pope Benedict, not CofE

"According to informants quoted in The Catholic Herald, the Queen has "grown increasingly sympathetic" to the Catholic Church over the years while being "appalled", along with the Prince of Wales, at developments in the Church of England.

The usually well-informed newspaper adds that the Queen, who is the Supreme Governor of the C of E, is "also said to have an affinity with the Holy Father, who is of her generation".

Considering the long, bloody history of the Catholic Church in England since King Henry the Eighth apostatized and formed the Church of England, the news that Queen Elizabeth has warm feelings toward Pope Benedict and the Catholic Church is on it's face, shocking.
Reading further, however, one discovers that recent changes in the Anglican Church, like the allowing of homosexually active clergy, might just make a woman of her generation appalled at the Church of which, by her birthright, the Supreme Head. Morality in the UK is at an all time low, and so is attendance in the Anglican Church. Could it be that Queen Elizabeth sees some of the morality of the world of her youth preserved in the Catholic Church? She would not be the first to think so.
Could this be the start of another Anglican, and a VERY prominent one, returning to the fold?

It should be very interesting to see what transpires when Pope Benedict visits the United Kingdom sometime next fall.

Do Republicans know who they are?

Some of the most powerful quotes come from movies. Cal Thomas finds wisdom in Moonstruck, to lead the Republican Party back to their core values.
" In the 1987 film "Moonstruck," Rose Castorini, played by Olympia Dukakis, walks home accompanied by a man she met in a restaurant. When he asks her if he can come in, she declines. When he asks why, she responds, "Because I'm married and because I know who I am."

On a political level, that seems to be the problem these days with the Republican Party. Many Republicans have forgotten who they are and what they are supposed to stand for. This is why there was such a strong reaction to Rush Limbaugh's speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington recently. Limbaugh tried to remind Republicans what they once believed in and of the ideas that won them elections."
Republicans are the conservative, pro-life party, they never win elections when they try to be liberal, yet they were still talking about cutting off the moral conservatives after this election where they took a beating after defeating all true conservatives with their liberal-skewed primary sytem.

The consequences of sex education without morality

Twelve year old Alfie has probably heard in his middle school health class that he should express himself sexually, as long as it 'felt right'. He certainly knew how to get his 14 year old girlfriend pregnant. What no one ever told him was that it was morally wrong to be intimate with someone you're not married to.
But the schools aren't the only ones to blame.
Unmarried parents, a chaotic house which is a hangout for pot smokers and a complete lack of supervison complete this sad story of children having children. Birth control and abortion are not the answer. Morality is.
But first the parents have to practice it before they can preach it.
"Josephine Quintavalle of the Pro-Life Alliance said that it was right that no-one should not be prosecuted as the children were “victims of our society”.
”We have to be pleased that they have the courage to resist the temptation to have an abortion because whoever is responsible it is not the child that has been born,” she said.
”Nobody can be happy in thinking that teenagers at a younger and younger age are sexually active.
”We have to drastically rethink our whole attitude to sex education.
”We should have the courage to say to children at this age 'You are too young, don't do it' it is time we woke up to that.”

President Elect Obama is a lifelong smoker

This photo of Obama taken during his Freshman Year in College was hidden during the election. While there are few of us who haven't done something foolish or immoral during those years, most of us have the humility to avoid being cast in an almost divine light, in the view of our past failings. God might have forgiven us, but the press won't. Unless you are the Chosen One.
Smoking was one of the few vices which President Clinton did not participate, so while in office, he made smoking a mortal sin. Although I am thrilled that am no longer a victim of second hand smoke in public places, it has gone too far. Smoking is preached against in every health class while life-threatening sexual exploits are encouraged.

Films which depict people smoking are censored, which is hypocritical since they can be breaking all of the Ten Commandments in broad daylight but they must NOT be seen smoking. Now Obama gets away with even that.
This is what happens when you write your own moral code, ignoring the millenia of Judeo-Christian morality.

Is this the October surprise?

Obama mentor Tony Rezko may gain a lighter sentence from prosecutors if he reveals the secrets of corrupt Illiois politics. What will he say about Barack Obama?
Unmentioned at the trial was a purchase by Rezko's wife, Rita, of property adjacent to the Obama home near the University of Chicago on the city's South Side. Obama and his wife, Michelle, purchased their home the same day that Rezko's wife closed on her property. And she later sold some of her property to the Obamas to enlarge their lot. Obama later said that allowing Rezko to do what appeared to be a favor was a "bonehead" move.
Will it bring him down if Tony talks?
Rezko was convicted in June of mail fraud, wire fraud, attempted extortion and money laundering. Several of the charges carry 20-year maximum sentences and while Rezko would not be expected to served that much time for a first offense he is still looking at the possibility of years in federal prison. A deal with prosecutors could reduce his time considerably.
Will this finally convince the American public that Barack Obama has a questionable past with corrupt associates?

Good News: Congress Renews Federal Funding for Abstinence Education

The U.S. Senate passed a bill Saturday that extends Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) through September 2009.
Recipients of CBAE funds — the largest funding stream for abstinence education — include pregnancy centers throughout the country and charitable organizations.
Ashley Horne, federal policy analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said this is good news for U.S. students.
"We are pleased that the abstinence-until-marriage funding remains in place through next September, but we understand that the work to keep the funding in place will continue with a new Congress," she said.
The U.S. House passed the bill last week. It now goes to the president.

Fitting tribute to A Great Prophet

Michael Cook's article at MercatorNet on my college hero, Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn explains the complexities the rise and fall of the prophet of the West. He told us just before Pope John Paul did, about the path to moral suicide the US was on, and was summarily rejected.
Unfortunately, he has been proven right. We are too preoccupied with our personal comfort to see how our spiritual and moral senses have been dulled into oblivion, like the helpless humans in Wall-E. This nation needs some suffering to wake it up to just how grave this problem is. God did it many times for His beloved people of Israel, He may just do it for us; send us a crisis to build our character. Fr Corapi sees it coming. It's no accident that the "Greatest Generation" emerged from a decade long Depression to fight a World War.

Did Brokeback break Heath Ledger?

Young actors who play emotionally and morally difficult roles are not immune to painful reactions to these roles. Linda Blair, who played Regan, the possessed girl in "The Exorcist" went on to a series of disturbing roles, including the victim of a gang rape, and disappeared from the spotlight.
Is is possible that the emotional and moral dilmemma evoked by his role in "Brokeback Mountain" unearthed emotions which the young actor couldn't process? Watch this disturbing interview which Heath Ledger did after filming "Brokeback Mountain".
This is the elephant in the room which Hollywood doesn't want to discuss, since, as a whole, they have overcome their problems with homosexual behavior. They assume that the young Ledger had done the same.
Perhaps they were wrong.

Uganda's successful Abstinence Campaign

That Sub-Saharan Africa lies in the grip of a vast AIDS epidemic is no secret to anyone. According to statistics published in 2006 by UNAIDS (the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS), an estimated 24.5 million people in the region were HIV-positive by the end of 2005, with 2.7 million contracting the virus in that year alone.
Desperate to stop the spread of this disease, which is well on its way to becoming the most destructive plague of all time, AIDS-stricken countries in Africa have turned to the West. The assistance they have received may have done more harm than good, however.
Secular-minded Western aid agencies have bombarded the continent with graphic sex-education programs and condoms. Yet, according to numbers published by UNAIDS itself (available here), HIV infection rates in Africa continue to climb, suggesting that such programs, instead of curbing the disease, are actually contributing to its spread by encouraging risky behavior.
Only one African country, Uganda, has successfully combated AIDS. No other country has experienced a comparable decline.
Over 18% of the adult population tested positive for the AIDS virus in 1992. By the end of 2005, only 6.7% did.
No other country has experienced a comparable decline.
How was this remarkable turnaround achieved? Western aid organizations, eager to justify their programs (and their funding), falsely attribute the decline to sex education and condoms. The Ugandans themselves tell a much simpler story. It can be summed up in one word: abstinence.
The unsung hero of Uganda's victory over AIDS is a Catholic nun by the name of Sister Miriam Duggan, M.D. Early on in the fight against this deadly disease Sister Miriam developed a program called "Education for Life," a program which encourages people to be abstinent before marriage and faithful within it. By educating people about the dangers of promiscuous sex and its deadly consequences, "Education for Life" has helped to change the mindset of the Ugandan people. Sister Miriam Duggan and her collaborators insist that it is this program, backed up by the willingness of the government to accept abstinence education, that has helped reduce the AIDS epidemic in Uganda.
"I think it can be very confusing for young people deciding now 'which way do I go?'" says Thandi Hadebe, an abstinence educator for Education for Life. "And that is where I think we fail our young people; because we give them too much conflicting information." He blames the AIDS epidemic on indiscriminate condom promotion and mixed messages sent by "comprehensive sex" educators.
Uganda's startling success in combatting the spread AIDS can be attributed to it's revolutionary approach to the problem -- through the promotion of abstinence before marriage and fidelity within marriages.
Education for Life takes a very different approach. "We emphasize the aspect of freedom," says Fr. Andrew Shingange, another educator with the program, "that it is within themselves that they can protect themselves."
A brilliant new documentary film called The Change is On celebrates this victory for life and common sense. Commissioned by Bishop Hugh Slattery of the South African Diocese of Tzaneen, it tells Sister Miriam's story, and explains how "Education for Life" works in practice.
In Sowing in Tears, the sister documentary to The Change is On, Bishop Slattery describes the work of faith-based organizations in dealing with the social consequences of HIV/AIDS. Nor surprisingly, it is people of faith who are heroically caring for the infected in their homes, and staffing the orphanages full of orphaned and grieving children. Few know the problems of the HIV/AIDS epidemic better than Bishop Slattery. The adult HIV rate in South Africa was 18.8% at the end of 2005, or about what it was in Uganda 15 years ago. The "Education for Life" program has now been introduced in his diocese, and is spreading throughout South Africa.
"[AIDS] is a threat to a whole civilization, it is a threat to our future, it is a question of 'will there be generations around here in the future?'" says Bishop Slattery. "It sounds pessimistic put that way, but really, it is massive if you look at the numbers."
"It is becoming more and more evident day by day that the Western world's obsession with condom promotion is severely hampering the efforts of African countries to deal effectively with HIV/AIDS," says Bishop Slattery. "The only country to show real progress in combating the disease is Uganda … through the promotion of abstinence before marriage and fidelity in marriages. The Western world refuses to accept and laud this tremendous achievement. On the contrary it is doing its utmost to undermine it by using every possible means of promoting condoms there, against the wishes of the government leadership."

Homeschooling is Getting a Bad Rap in Jersey

I normally cringe when there are 'homeschoolers' in the news. So many unstable or abusive parents who neglect their children's education hide behind the rest of us who slog on, day after day educating our children. I fear that the term 'homeschoolers' will forever conjure up some backwater family hostile to the 'guvmint' people.
As a Catholic mother, I would feel that I'm endangering my three daughters' eternal souls if I DIDN'T homeschool them, in the immoral culture we live in. The Catholic schools are hardly better, here, in fact they can do MORE damage, as one tends to trust that what they are foisting on the students is truth, when sadly, many times it isn't. I know this from personal experience with the historical-critical method of 'debunking' the miracles of the Bible, which I learned in Catholic high school.

Dr. William Marra, who homeschooled in the 1970's when it was unheard of, had a three-pronged approach for decontaminating children from the Culture of Death:

1. Take them OUT of the sewer of popular culture, blocking it's access to your home. Stuff towels under the door if necessary.

2.Create a Catholic culture in your home. Celebrate liturgical seasons, teach Church doctrine, read the lives of the saints, hang plenty of holy pictures on the walls, and don't forget frequent attendance at Holy Mass and the family rosary!

3. If you can, after doing steps 1 and 2, teach them the academics. But, if you're having a bad day, just pull out a deck of cards and deal the them. You have accomplished so much with the first two steps, you can afford to lose a day or two!

Think of all the children WON'T learn in school:
AlGore environmental voodoo science
Homosexual immorality as a healthy lifestyle choice
Many details about sex you never wanted them to know until marriage(or after).
How to sin with no consequences, and how to secretly abort a baby.
How Christian white men have caused all the misery in the world.
Why Obama/Hillary would make the world's greatest president.
The wonders of Islam, (they may even be forced to practice it as in California).
Why it doesn't matter if you can't read or add, if you feel good about yourself.

I could go on, but you get my drift! And they wonder why we can homeschool in half the time it takes for a regular school day! Just look at all the nonsense we can eliminate from the curriculum!

How to Escape the Tolerance Trap

Ever get accused of being intolerant? I certainly hope so! It means you have beliefs and you aren't afraid to express them. The classical definition of a liberal is; "I may not agree with your beliefs, but I would give my life to preserve your ability to express them".
How many liberals you know could honestly claim this as their motto?

More often you hear what I heard in a homily by a popular priest who works with youth,
"the only sin is the sin of intolerance". What does this mean? That I condemn the sin while loving the sinner? I agree with that, but that isn't what is usually meant by that statement. Unfortunately, that view, once universally held by the Church, is now out of favor as well. We are considered hateful if we can sin sin, and don't excuse that which is sinful, calling it acceptable, and giving the sinner protected status (ie homosexual marriage). This is actually the opposite of a spiritual act of mercy, admonishing the sinner. Why do we admonish him? Because we are above sin? Certainly not, we do it to save his immortal soul!
The idea in this article is to be elitist about ideas, and egalitarian about people. That is, can sin sin, YET love those who are trapped in it (as we all are, to some degree)and help the sinner to repentance. It's been done for me, and God, willing, I can help others out of the trap of the enemy. Satan's greatest victory is when we deny his existence, and temporarily soothe the troubled soul of the sinner, telling him he's not on the path to damnation.
Think of this the next time you are invited over to have dinner at an unmarried couple's home.
Or asked to attend an invalid second marriage. Take a stand, and risk being called intolerant. Let them know you love them enough to tell them the truth.
