It's inspiring to read the history of Our Sunday Visitor, founded 97 years ago by Father Noll to combat anti-Catholicism. OSV has taken the Catholic side of the debate since, including the divisive issue of Humanae Vitae, and the subsequent decline of catechesis.
"On July 25, 1968, Pope Paul VI issued an encyclical forbidding artificial contraception. Overnight, birth control became the hottest issue of debate among Catholics. Catholic League president Bill Donohue explains why he wants a disclaimer in “Angels & Demons”; it debuts in Rome today and opens in the U.S. on May 15:
“India’s Censor Board has asked that a disclaimer be put in ‘Angels & Demons’ saying the movie is a work of fiction. It has also asked that certain scenes be deleted from the movie. The Board explained its position by saying ‘It has its guidelines and its duty, and if it thinks a film, any film, disparages a religious community or hurts religious feelings, it should take action under its code.’
“The Catholic League would like to see the same disclaimer inserted everywhere the movie is shown. The disclaimer is needed because director Ron Howard, drawing on the book by Dan Brown, is playing both sides of the street: he, and Brown, alternate between promoting their work as fact and fiction. Thus, to set the record straight they need to come clean and do for the rest of the world what they have already agreed to do in India—insert a disclaimer indicating its fictional nature.
“The Catholic League believes that cutting scenes is an infringement on the artistic rights of those associated with the film and therefore does not endorse this approach. But a disclaimer is different: it is nothing more than a variant of truth in advertising.
“India is only two percent Christian. If Sony, the film’s producer, and Howard have no problem putting in a disclaimer in India, they surely should be prepared to do the same wherever the movie is shown. When Sony released ‘The Merchant of Venice’ it opened with a disclaimer condemning anti-Semitism. Howard opened ‘A Beautiful Mind’ with a disclaimer noting how the film contains fictional aspects not found in the book by that name. Catholics, obviously, expect the same degree of respect.

Let me be clear; since the Lambeth Conference in 1930 when the Anglican Church was the first denomination to approve birth control, Christian populations have been in decline. Muslim families are growing eight times faster. Soon Europe will be made of Muslim states, and the US won't be far behind. Disobedience to God's laws always has consequences, but in this case, our children will be paying the price for their grandparents and parents sin.

Pro-life support spike in past 8 months!
All these First 1oo Days posts have been depressing; from the hyped adulation of the media (we told you the Messiah could turn the economy around!)to the realistically pessimistic take of the pro-family set (you think this is bad, just wait to see who's replacing Souter!)
None of the talk has been hopeful, it's been a terrible trial since the election, until this undeniable fact; pro-life support has had a dramatic increase in the past 8 months, coming largely from the moderates, those swing votes who change elections.

The League and its national director Joe Scheidler, a Notre Dame alumnus and former teacher there, already have called on the university's president, Rev. John Jenkins, to rescind his invitation to Obama. They have protested at the university, and have said they will return to decry Obama's appearance on May 17 if Jenkins' invite stands. Nearly 60 Catholic bishops and scores of pro-life leaders have written Jenkins, urging him to cancel Obama's talk, or otherwise protested his decision

Carrie Prejean on National Organization for Marriage video
I have a friend who reminds me of Carrie Prejean. When we were 16 in the late seventies, she, a tall slim blonde Homecoming Queen was entered into a lead up pageant to Miss America. Then she made a decision; she would sing "Jesus said 'Come to the Water'" for her talent. Not that she couldn't sing, but we both knew that her choice of song, even 30 years ago, meant that she would lose the contest. She valued her faith over winnig the contest. Decades later, in a happy marriage with six loving children, and a vibrant Christian faith, she knows she is a winner.
So, in 2009, Carrie Prejean, also an Evangelical Christian , makes the same decision; honor Christ and lose the empty praises of man. Especially one man who is quite virulent in voicing his displeasure. See video here.

Obama confronted with FOCA at Press Conference; backs away
Many of those who voted for Obama were blissfully unaware, (because they are not selective in what media to watch) of his pro-abortion record or his frightening promises to Planned Parenthood to make FOCA his first priority. Why didn't they read the Catholic blogs?!
Anyway, when a CNN White House correspondent confronted Obama with his goals for abortion in the new adminstration, his response reminded me of someone who'd seen a snake. "Who me? Pro-abortion? Where ever did you get that idea?" Don't believe you've had a change of heart, Obama. You are just very careful to cultivate a moderate likeable public image, but when you are with your core constituency, the Planned Parenthood nags, the San Francisco Greenpeace yuppies, your true nature is revealed as you mock pro-lifers as gun totin', Bible thumpin', barefoot hillbillies.
"Now, the freedom of choice act is not my highest legislative priority. I believe that women should have the right to choose, but I think that the most important thing we can do to tamp down some of the anger surrounding this issue is to focus on those areas that we can agree on. And that’s where I’m going to focus."
I think that the sheer magnitude of the March for Life, the Notre Dame controversy, and the tea parties has alarmed Obama. We have him in defensive mode, at least outwardly. But his appointees are still left wingnuts, who are avide pro-abortion activists.
The anger is not going away until your actions reveal a true change of heart!

Following the release of undercover footage from a Memphis Planned Parenthood clinic, state lawmakers have introduced legislation that could divert taxpayer subsidies from Planned Parenthood in Tennessee. In response to Planned Parenthood of Greater Memphis Region's contesting the veracity of the footage, the group responsible for filming, Live Action, has sent the state Attorney General and Memphis DistrictAttorney an unedited version for review.

When Lila, posing as a 14-year-old girl impregnated by a 31-year-old man,mentions, "My boyfriend said he could pay for everything--But he shouldn't come here to pay 'cause you'll see him, right?" the counselor replies, "It doesn't matter. As long as your parents are not here and can't identify him, he can just pay and that's it. He could be like your older brother or whatever."
Tennessee law states that a minor must have parental consent before undergoing an abortion. Rose commends the Tennessee state lawmakers, led by Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey and Sen. Jack Johnson, who have questioned the state's over $700,00 funding of Planned Parenthood. "Why would citizens tolerate paying the billsof an organization that protects statutory rapists and victimizes young girls?
This is the sad result of the careless abortion-first mentality thathas persisted at Planned Parenthood for decades."On Monday, Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region CEO Barry Chase sent an email to state legislators asking them to stop the bill and claimed that Live Action's president, Lila Rose, refused to send his organization the unedited footage, even though neither Rose nor Live Action received any correspondence from Planned Parenthood."We have not received a request from Planned Parenthood for the raw footage, so their efforts to raise doubts about the validity of the tapes are made only to mislead," Rose said in response. Hate crimes legislation which just passed the House will soon make that statement, a product of my Catholic beliefs, a crime. And I love homosexuals. With the love of Christ, which is why I beg them to stop sinning, repent, confess, and go to heaven. As I pray for myself, and all the other sinners out there, I pray for their conversion. Really.
But the activists will not listen: they keep telling us what we can and cannot say. As if silencing us would help their guilty consciences or their tortured lifestyles. According to the website Mass Resistance:
"Given the extreme dysfunctional nature of homosexual relationships, the Massachusetts Legislature has felt the need to spend more money every year to deal with skyrocketing homosexual domestic violence. This year $350,000 was budgeted, up $100,000 from last year."
Yet our homosexual activists won't allow priests and ministers to preach truth from the pulpit without fear.

Hate crimes legislation which just passed the House will soon make that statement, a product of my Catholic beliefs, a crime. And I love homosexuals. With the love of Christ, which is why I beg them to stop sinning, repent, confess, and go to heaven. As I pray for myself, and all the other sinners out there, I pray for their conversion. Really.
But the activists will not listen: they keep telling us what we can and cannot say. As if silencing us would help their guilty consciences or their tortured lifestyles. According to the website Mass Resistance:
"Given the extreme dysfunctional nature of homosexual relationships, the Massachusetts Legislature has felt the need to spend more money every year to deal with skyrocketing homosexual domestic violence. This year $350,000 was budgeted, up $100,000 from last year."
Yet our homosexual activists won't allow priests and ministers to preach truth from the pulpit without fear.
"Legislators rejected a proposal that would have protected ministers, who speak of the Christian perspective of homosexuality, from being prosecuted for abetting a perceived "hate crime." Critics of the bill say that it threatens to chill free speech, arguing that similar legislation has done so in Canada, Sweden, and the U.K."

Liberal Supreme Court Justice Souter to retire
That's the bad news; while Obama in on a roll of raving liberal appointees; child porn lawyers, abortionist's best friends(Sebelius), abortion apologists, and garden variety tax cheats(Geitner), he might as well replace a liberal on the Supreme Court with a liberal. And thanks to Specter jumping back to the Democratice Party where he began his politicial career, any liberal card carryng-Communist he appoints will sail through the Senate confirmation.
The entire Senate gave ACLU attorney Ruth Bader Ginsburg a pass, approving her 99-0 but Robert Bork was, well Borked. And Clarence Thomas was given a high tech media lynching (his own words, remember?) Catholics Scalia, Roberts and Alito were raked over the coals for daring to see human dignity in the unborn. Come to think of it, the best Supreme Court justices are Catholic (Thomas, Scalia, Roberts, Alito and Kennedy). Kennedy is the one to watch, as he is the swing vote. When he retires (may God grant him long life) there will be the battle of the century, as the forces of death will see Roe v Wade at stake. Was it Laura Ingraham who whispered to a Republican leader, "you can do anything to pro-lifers, just give them the Supreme Court".
Until then, I'll try and look the other way while a left wing maniac is approved to replace Souter, and won't go ballistic unless Reverend Wright or some terroist is appointed. Did someone mention Bill Ayers?

Conscience Clauses for Prolife medical professionals

Through the efforts of nearly a dozen pro-family groups — including Focus on the Family Action — more than 340,000 Americans have sent comments to the Health and Human Services Department (HHS) in support of health care professionals' right of conscience.
President George W. Bush put regulations in place in December to reinforce federal laws that protect medical professionals from being forced to participate in abortion and other anti-life practices that violate their morals. President Barack Obama wants to overturn them.
Carrie Gordon Earll, senior bioethics analyst at Focus on the Family Action, called it a serious situation.
"If the Bush regulations are reversed and the trend to discriminate continues, people of faith and strong conviction will stop going into medicine," she said. "In 20 years, you may not be able to find a pro-life doctor. Reversing the regulations puts medical professionals and patients at risk." In a recent survey, 95 percent of faith-based physicians said they would rather stop practicing medicine than be forced to violate their consciences.
In another poll — also conducted by WomanTrend on behalf of the Christian Medical Association — nearly 90 percent of Americans said they believe it is important to “make sure health care professionals in America are not forced to participate in procedures and practices to which they have moral objections.”
