What's so Terrible About Down Syndrome?

The UK Times has published a great piece by Simon Barnes about raising a child with Down Syndrome. In it he says, "The never-disputed terribleness of Down’s syndrome is used as one of the great justifications for abortion: abortion has to exist so that we don’t people the world with monsters. I am not here to talk about abortion — but I am here to tell you that Down’s syndrome is not an insupportable horror for either the sufferer or the parents. I’ll go further: human beings are not better off without Down’s syndrome."

What a beautiful article, and so true. I have several friends with handicapped children, and these little ones enrich the lives of those around them like no healthy child can. They are miracles to all who know them. God bless you and your family for being witnesses in this culture of death!
