Gloria Allred fighting Tebow Superbowl ad

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on an attempt by feminist lawyer Gloria Allred to get CBS to drop the pro-life Super Bowl ad featuring Tim Tebow and his mother:

Gloria Allred is no stranger to the subject of abortion, so it is not surprising that she wants to kill this pro-life ad. Her letter to Les Moonves of CBS, available at RadarOnline.com, wants the ad pulled because it is allegedly guilty of “misleading advertising.”

Allred, who has not seen the ad, charges that when Tebow’s mother was being advised by doctors in the Philippines to consider an abortion (she was on antibiotics for a pregnancy illness), it was illegal there to have one. In a monumental stretch, Allred reasons that the ad should disclose this information, otherwise it is “misleading.”

What is really misleading is Allred’s duplicity. Several years ago, she represented Amber Frey in a case related to the death of Laci Peterson; Peterson’s husband, Scott, was convicted of murdering both her and the baby she was carrying, a boy they named Connor. In an interview she gave to Hannity and Colmes on the Fox News Channel on June 5, 2003, Allred found it useful to her case to emphasize the humanness of Peterson’s baby: “And the fact that there are two individuals who are dead there, Laci and Connor, that has to be the most important consideration of everything.” For once, she was right.

Allred’s confession in 2003 undercuts her credibility—to say nothing of her ethical standing—to make the case against this Super Bowl ad. She knows that Tim Tebow is alive today because his mother did not abort him. To top it off, she can’t even deal respectfully with this issue. Her snide remark, which is in the letter to Moonves, is classic. “As the story is reported,” she says, “Tim’s mother decides to take her pregnancy to term anyway and give birth to Tim. Apparently they have lived happily ever after since that time.” And apparently, this woman has no shame.

Let CBS know of your support for this ad. Contact Leslie Moonves:

State of dis-union

From the jutting chin to the perpetual blaming of George Bush for the spending he voted for in his Senate career, Obama came off as an arrogant member of a gang, trying to stare down dissenters and even having the unmitigated gall to reprimand the Supreme Court in front of the entire nation. His arrogance was breaththaking. Good for Justice Samuel Alito who mouthed "not true" during his castigation. I might haved shouted it. He showed class under the most unimaginable of circumstances.
No change over the candidate whose mere presence was going to change the world. The world laughs, we are losing our seat as a superpower as Americans lose their jobs. One of the points which really stung is his affirmation that the quality of a child's education shouldn't be determined by her zip code. Since he denied funding for the voucher program helping DC students attend private schools, he is a big hypocrite. His daughters will never be forced to attend the horrific schools other black children in DC attend.
But the disasterous career of this president gets worse than granting te rrorists rights. He denies basic human rights to 1.5 million Americans each year.
Here is a pro-life state of the union on Life News.

Most Americans are pro-life. Some 65 percent of us want to reduce abortions, not encourage, fund and force them. Why then is the state of our union a reflection of a pro-death mentality so contrary to our core beliefs?

Tragically, the only area where the President may have succeeded is taking the lives of more unborn children, both here an abroad. Over 50 percent of Americans disagree with this, so once again t he President is on the wrong side of the will of the people.

Mainstream media ignore the March for Life

Hardly  a news headline, is it, that the mainstream media studiously ignore the largest grassroots event in DC every year. We are used to it and trying to overcome it, by using the New Media.
Here's a lackluster article by the Washington Times. Notice the close ups, No one takes the panoramic shots of the huge crowd which were taken at the Inauguration where "even the birds were impressed by the crowd".
I was impressed by the crowd, because, unlike previous years, I never saw the end of it. It just kept coming, younger and stronger than before (at least the reporter noted that the crowd consisted of mostly collge kids, not what Newsday once said pejoritavely in the 70's, "middle-aged housewives with meatloaf sandwiches". This middle aged housewife had fresh sandwiches from the lovely spread put out by the National Right to Life Committee after a mini-conference with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers and her son Cole. This photo is from her email describing her participation in the March for Life.
I'll share the photos we took later, for now,  go to Neil Sloan's collection of photos on Picassa.

THIS is why I supported Scott Brown

Some of my readers were questioning my reasons for supporting a candidate who was not truly pro-life. If Scott Brown were running for president, and the Republicans were still in the primary stage, I would not have supported him, just as I would not support John McCain at first. I was in the Brownback camp, then when he dropped out, I switched to Huckabee. Only after all options were out did I reluctantly support McCain, as the lesser of two evils. This is perfectly legitimate Catholic voting; vote for the candidate who would do the least amount of harm.
Scott Brown is not completely pro-life, yet he supports conscience rights for medical personnel, unlike Martha Coakley who told faithful Catholics to "not work in the Emergency Room". He is also opposed to Obamacare, as stated in Life Site News.
While Scott Brown is moderately pro-abortion, his victory was widely accepted by pro-life leaders as a victory for the right to life movement because of his promise to take down the health care bill, which would be the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade if passed into law. Brown has said he specifically opposes the Senate bill's federal abortion funding.

His election sounded the death knell of the radical kpre-abortion Obama agenda; health care, cap and trade, pork laden stimulus bills, the closing of GITMO, full legal rights for terrorists, takeover of American industries, and radical  department and judge appointees. Just putting a stop to Chicago politics, the politics of the radical left of Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright is a great good. Stopping the behemoth health care takeover would have been enough to earn my vote. As you recall, I travelled to Washingon to participate in Healthcare for Gunner an anti-Obamacare movement and spoke in their press conference on Capitol Hill.

Hopefully, now that he is elected the conservative base who elected Brown can educate him on life issues. The education starts tomorrow with the March for Life. I hope he'll be in town, becasue he's probably never seen a crowd like we're expecting this year.

Personhood is the theme of this year's March for Life

"The appellee and certain amici [pro-lifers] argue that the fetus is a 'person' within the language and meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment. In support of this, they outline at length and in detail the well-known facts of fetal development. If this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant's case, of course, collapses, for the fetus' right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the [14th] Amendment"
These words, spoken by Supreme Court Justice Blackmun, on the day Roe v Wade was passed, January 22, 1973 may well prove the undoing of abortion in America. All we have to do to end abortion in America is to have unborn children declared persons. Then the Constitution kicks in and they can not be murdered.

A personhood movement, sparked by American Life League(see the header of this blog) has caught on, causing several states to hold elections on whether an unbaby is a person with the same rights as any American. Sounds logical, right, if terrorists have their day in court, the least we can do is offer the same dignity to soon to be citizens.
Personhood amentdments have not yet passed, but the votes were close enough  to rattle  the NARAL crowd. And we're gaining traction.

This year's March for Life has, as it's theme "Personhood".

Maaaatha Coakley says devout Catholics should not work in Emergency Rooms

The hotter than hot Senate race in ( whoda thunk-it) Massachusetts just reached the boiling point. Scott Brown is pulling ahead, and, as if to help him,  Maaatha Coakley just put her foot in her mouth.
Martha Coakley, a Catholic herself,  in an interview quoted on Jill Stanek's blog stated that if Catholics were obedient to the teachings of their Church on life issues, they'd better not work in the ER.

Coakley: I would not pass a bill, as Scott Brown filed amendment, to say that if people believe that they don't want to provide services that are required under the law and under to Roe vs. Wade that they can individually decide to not follow the law. The answer to that question is no. And let's be clear, 'cause Scott Brown filed an amendment to a bill in MA that would say that hospital and emergency room personnel could deny emergency contraception to a woman who came in and been raped.
Pittman: Right, if you are a Catholic, and believe what the Pope teaches that any form of birth control is a sin. ah you don't want to do that.
Coakley: No we have a seperation of church and state Ken, lets be clear.
Pittman: In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom.have that. You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn't work in the emergency room.
Coakley: (... uh, eh...um..) The law says that people are allowed to

Massachusetts is the most Catholic state in the nation. Will Catholics stand for such a blatant attack on their faith? Or are too many of them living sinful lives, which violate the Church's prohibitions of birth control and abortion, living in sin as unmarried couples to care about this open assault on Catholic teaching? Americans are fair-minded people, if they don't obey a moral law, they are gentler to others who have the same moral weakness. Just look at how the bishops of CT allowed Plan B to be used in cases of rape in Catholic ERs in Connecticut. The State Legislature was poised to allow conscience protections, and the bishops made it clear that they were comfortable with this violation of the ban on birth control and abortion. Plan B is more than birth control, it may cause a baby already conceived not to implant on the uterine wall, thus causing an early abortion. So Catholics in CT are obviously too far gone to put up a fight to confront assaults on Catholic teaching.
Lets hope that our neighbors to the North have learned from our sorry example.
The next few days should be a test of what is left of Catholicism in Massachusetts. Are Catholics finally willing to become Catholics first and Democrat Kennedy syncophants second?
Cardinal O'Malley, we know you can't endorse a candidate, however, wouldn't this be a good time to remind your flock of Canon 915? Archbishop Burke has taken this occasion to remind Catholics that they are Catholic first, especially in the voting booth.
“The minister of justice bears a most heavy burden, the burden of emptying himself of himself, in order to have God alone before His eyes, in declaring what is just and right on behalf of his fellow citizens.”
However, according to the archbishop, the current society is one which is hostile to the true administration of justice, trying “to force individuals and institutions to cooperate in egregious violations of the natural moral law.”

“In such a society, the administration of justice is no longer a participation in the justice of God, an obedient response to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, but a façade cloaking our own selfishness and refusal to give our lives for the sake of the good of all our brothers and sisters.”
Bill Donohue never hesitates to jump into the melee when Catholicism is under attack:

When Martha Coakley, a Roman Catholic, was asked whether she supports conscience rights for health care employees, she offered a resounding “NO.” So completely wedded to the extremists in the pro-abortion community, Coakley would not allow Catholic doctors and nurses—who unlike her accept the teachings of Catholicism—to recuse themselves from participating in procedures they find morally repugnant

Coakley said that if she were asked to consider a bill that would say “if people believe that they don’t want to provide services that are required under the law and under Roe v. Wade, that they can individually decide to not follow the law. The answer is no.” When asked by host Ken Pittman about the rights of Catholics who follow the teachings of the Catholic Church, Coakley offered the separation of church and state mantra. Pittman then said, “In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom.” Coakley conceded that point but hastened to add, “you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.” Translated: You really don’t have a right to exercise your religious-liberty objections.
This is the opinion of the attorney general, the chief law enforcement agent in the state of Massachusetts. She effectively told practicing Catholics who work in the health care industry that they ought to get another job. As far as she is concerned, those who invoke a right to conscientious objection—a staple of religious liberty—should lose.

President Obama says he supports conscience rights for health care workers. The Catholic bishops support conscience rights. Survey after survey show that the American people support conscience rights. But Martha Coakley does not—she says they’re all wrong. Glad to know which side of religious liberty she is on.
We in  Conncecticut have Plan B abortifcacient contraceptives used in our Catholic hospital emergency rooms. We have gay marriage, which will soon be taught to innocent children in our public schools. We are also a very Catholic state which has lost its way. We need theleadership of a man with a backbone  like Bishop Tobin of Rhode Island. We need a good example of our neighbors to our north who are about to vote in a pro-life man for the first time in many, many years.
Go Scott Brown!
Long live Catholicism in Massacusetts!

Time for the Tea Party to win in Massachusetts

I was recently a guest on Jeanine Nottter's "Chattin' with Jeanine" radio talk show on in Nashua NH. She mentioned Scott Brown, the Republican candidate running for what John Kerry calls "Ted Kennedy's seat" in the Senate. This is the seat which will make or break the Obama agenda, beginning with health care, for it is the 60th vote in the Senate. Jeannine wanted me to encourage my readers in MA to support this solidly pro-life legislator in this notoriously left-wing state.
Massachusetts should know better than that. The birthplace of freedom, the former hotbed of activism against unfair taxation, the inventor of the original Tea Party, has succommed to the somulence that government knows best, just pay and obey and all will be well. Horsefeathers! Massachusetts should wake up and smell the gunpowder. This is political war.
Obama has dug a canyon of debt with nothing but higher rates of unemployment to show for it, while flashing his snake-oil salesman grin cajoling Nebraska's Ben Nelson to be the 60th vote on the dangerous healthcare legislation. One sixth of our economy in the hands of a man who has never worked outside of politics or academia, never run a business or been held accountable for his past record of votes, or shady associations. The most pro-abortion politician in the history of this nation, whose citizenship and loyalty to this nation are questioned, is NOT the man whom I want making my family's life or death decisions. Nor is his knee-jerk Congress. Polls have Obama at an abyssmal 46% approval rating and the health care bill scores only 36%. The American people have begun to look behind the curtain and have seen that the Wizard is fake, but they cannot undo their foolish decisions of last year's election until November.
Electing Scott Brown to block the Obamanation's destruction of our ecomony, our national security,  and our decency (have you seen his latest gender bender appointee?).
People of Massachusetts, you have been called to save this nation once again from a tyrant. A tyrant we  elected our of our well intentioned attitude of wanting to have our first African American president. Voting for Scott Brown would be a vote to save America before Obama and his fantatical appointees own 100% of this economy and we are virtually robbed of our veto power.
Read about him here.

Get involved, the election is on January 19. we only have a week to make sure he closes the narrow gap between him and leading liberal candidate Attorney General Martha Coakley, a Kennedy clone.

Altar boys are a good idea

I moved from my home of 40 years to another state to be part of St Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Baltic, CT, a parish which respects Traditional Catholics. We have a beautiful church and traditional hymns. We have no Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, thus our Communion Time at Mass offers plenty of time for prayer. Most of the congregation remains behind after Mass for a few moments of thanksgiving. We have Eucharistic Adoration and a thriving youth group which watches EWTN videos and films like "The 13th Day". Our CCD and Catholic school are taught by nuns in habit who use wonderful "Faith and Life" catechism books. Our pastor Fr Tito has amazing homilies, they are broadcast on AirMaria.com. We are so blessed to have a holy priest who knows how to run a parish well, and parishioners travel for miles to be part of this amazing parish.
So why is having only altar boys a good idea?
Altar boys are learning to be priests, like apprentices. If girls can't become priests, then why are they serving at the altar?  Does anyone complain that as young men they can't have children? It is a different role ordained by God when they were created. Women are honored by being able to bear children, men are honored by being able to be 'alter Christos' and offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Therefore, when boys are offered the opportunity to serve at the altar, without competition from girls, they usually respond with more enthusiasm. I observed it myself in my fifth grade students in the Catholic school. When it came their turn to serve, the boys proudly announced it to the class. One of them already says he has a vocation.
Read this testimony from a veteran altar boy, submitted to epriest

"Altar serving at Holy Family allows boys to be more fully integrated into the Mass and gives them a chance to experience Christ's sacrifice up close. Holy Family provides an environment that makes them feel welcome and necessary and is an excellent experience". Carson Lind, 19 year old, 7 year veteran
The article goes on to report astounding results increasing Mass participation by young boys. Give them respect and a unique job to do, and they respond generously.
May more priests do the same, so that we have a vocations boom!

Mother and child's revival a Christmas miracle?

Sometimes doctors take a back seat to Divine Intervention. The father of the baby was holding his wife's hand when she was declared dead. His son was delivered by Cesarean Section, also appearing lifeless. His reaction was:
\
"My legs went out from underneath me," he recalled Tuesday.  "I had everything in the world taken from me, and in an hour and a half I had everything given to me."
Dr. Stephanie Martin, a maternal fetal medicine specialist who was called in for the ordeal at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, said that Tracy's malady, and her recovery, were both mysteries.  "We did a thorough evaluation and can't find anything that explains why this happened," she said.
"[Tracy] had no signs of life. No heartbeat, no blood pressure, she wasn't breathing," said Martin. "The baby was, it was basically limp, with a very slow heart rate."

72% of Americans against abortion funding in Obamacare

American voters mostly disapprove of the pro-abortion health care bill, by a 53-36 percent margin.
They also disapprove of pro-abortion President Barack Obama's handling of the health care issue by a similar 56-38 percent margin, the new survey showed
Yet no one in Congress is listening. They did what Obama insisted they do, often against their better judgement, and then they slunk back to their districts in the middle of Christmas season hoping they would not be faced by angry constituents. 72% that's an overwhelming number. But will we still care when the last ornament is packed away?
Let's make a New Years's Resolution, a gift to the Baby Jesus, to care about this. To keep having our voices heard in the public square, from now till their either listen or get voted out in November, a mere 9 months away.
Are you making plans to join us at the March for Life this month on the 22nd?

Montana to allow doctor-assisted suicide

from the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation.
The Supreme Court of Montana vacated a trial judge’s ruling that the Constitution of Montana prohibited assisted suicide for the terminally ill—but construed the state’s living will law as permitting doctors to prescribe lethal overdoses if the patient self administers. From the conclusion of the majority opinion:

“In conclusion, we find nothing in Montana Supreme Court precedent or Montana statutes indicating that physician aid in dying is against public policy. The ‘against public policy’ exception to consent has been interpreted by this Court as applicable to violent breaches of the public peace.”
