Congratulations Grandma Palin from ALL

American Life League offers congratulations to the family of Gov. Sarah Palin on the news that Palin's daughter Bristol will give birth to the family's first grandchild in December.
"Human life is always something to celebrate as a gift of infinite beauty and value," said ALL president Judie Brown. "Even under trying circumstances, a child has come into the world made in the image and likeness of God. The Palin family is to be congratulated on their first grandchild."
Bristol is an unmarried, 17-year-old high school senior. Her pregnancy announcement comes only months after her mother gave birth to Trig, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome.
"The business of the pro-life movement is to show the world that every life is sacred," Brown said. "Bristol, like every scared and pregnant young girl, deserves our support and care. We applaud the Palin family for doing the right thing."
Palin announced that Bristol plans to marry the baby's father.
"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned," the Palins announced in a Sept. 1 statement. "We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support."
"The Palin family has provided us with a beautiful example of accepting with gratitude and trust the challenges that come not only with caring for a child with Down syndrome, but also of welcoming an unexpected grandchild," said Brown. "The Palins, with their great love for the sanctity of life, provide a stark contrast to the enemies of life who view unplanned pregnancies as a tragedy and a curse instead of a blessing and gift."American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death.

Biden's double cross

A guest post by cartoonist John Francis Borra

Well, there you have it-- in his own words, no less.

Remarkably, even at age 65, Joe Biden remains confused about the Catholic faith. This becomes even clearer when you consider the preceding sentence from his autobiography: "My idea of self, of family, of community, of the wider world comes straight from my religion." Needless to say, Biden confuses the secular culture of the community in which he grew up with the Catholic faith that its members professed. In this respect, Biden is no different than many millions of other non-practicing Catholics. Often referred to as cultural Catholics, they adhere to the form of the ancient Christian faith while rejecting its substance, leading lives otherwise indistinguishable from those of atheists.

But is he fully to blame? After all, his mother seems to have done young Joe no favors during his formation. In his acceptance speech at the Democrats' convention in Denver, Biden recalled his mother's coaching to punch out kids who picked on him. I thought immediately of the counsel my wife had given our own son in grade school, to ignore the assaults of bullies and disarm them with an even temper and well-chosen words rather than sink to the level of stupid brutality.

And is there anything more stupidly brutal than the abortions Joe Biden so vigorously defends?

Indeed, Biden's mother seems to have sown seeds that eventually flowered in his public apostasy. In his self-serving Promises to Keep, Biden writes of being teased by a nun, something his mother never forgot. Decades later, upon telling her he was to meet the pope, his mother replied, "Don't you kiss his ring." Such anecdotes remind me of those told by acquaintances who harbor a vague, generations-old enmity toward the Church. Invariably, they stem from some trivial incident in which a member of the clergy said something that somehow offended mom; in a huff, the matriarch left the Church. The result? Her descendants are denied their most precious, rightful and salutary inheritance.

Still, we Catholics are personally responsible for growing in knowledge of our faith. And having been admonished over many years by clergy and laity alike, Biden has no excuses. To be sure, Joe Biden is quick to point out he's still Catholic, but his actions remind us he left the Church long ago for a very different religion and, as illustrated in this cartoon, a very different god.

Why Sarah Palin's crisis proves her pro-life stance is genuine

The liberal spin machine, which just tried to sell a terrible false rumor about Sarah Palin's daughter, including on my blog Cause of Our Joy (see the comments) is now giddy with glee that she has a real life challenge. Her daughter Bristol, age 17 is pregnant outside of marriage. But we Catholics have a surprise for them. It's called forgiveness.
We admire Sarah's guidance as a mother to her daughter in crisis, to choose life for her unborn child. Character has been defined as what you do when no one sees, but I would like to add that character is what you do when everyone is looking. Sarah Palin has proven twice in the past five months just how deep her pro-life convictions are. She is truly pro-life, and just the kind of leader this country needs to help us out of the moral morass we are in.
Deacon Keith Fournier says it very well:
In fact, the Palin's have only confirmed me in my conviction that the Governor of Alaska is a great asset to John McCain and just the kind of leader which we need to stand at the side of the next President of the United States.Bristol Palin acknowledges that she is five months pregnant and unmarried. She and the father of this child have properly exercised their freedom of choice. They have done so morally. They have chosen life. They have also decided not to offer this gift of life for adoption. That is also a moral choice. Bristol will give birth to this child, not abort him or her. She and the father of the baby will marry in the future.
Today the internet was abuzz with discussion of what is “proper” and allegations that this news somehow undermines the claim that Todd and Sarah truly hold “family values”. How despicable! We should all praise Bristol and the father of this child for not opting to kill the baby through abortion. We should applaud and pray for the grandparents who have decided they will help the new family. The scurrilous and judgmental comments and concerns over whether this news undercuts Senator McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin are revealing.

The truth about the Sarah Palin pregnancy rumor

this is from Erik Erikson of Red State.com
Well, that's one way to rebut a rumor.
The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.
As we noted earlier: The foul denizens of Obama's online base, who find the very idea of Sarah Palin as a strong feminist conservative mother absurd, engaged in the worst kind of putrid mudslinging over the past few days, suggesting in no uncertain terms that her daughter was the mother of Trig Palin. Of course, those of us who laughed at the baseless suggestions of the child-hating left (she's not fat enough! they shriek) now know that to be impossible. We also know that McCain himself knew of Bristol's pregnancy - which had to have made this past 48 hours all the more frustrating for the campaign. For all these reasons, it's good to have this announcement come now.
We'll see how the media inevitably bashes this young woman for her choice in the coming days, in the wake of covering up the John Edwards love child for 2+ years, and botching the story when it came out as they bent over backwards to avoid criticism.
Nah, that wasn't bias.
But it's fitting that in this moment, one of the toughest a young woman can face, Bristol Palin has chosen on her own to take the right path.
This baby is not a "punishment,", as Obama so famously said; it is not an object to be destroyed, as Obama argued for in the Illinois State Senate; he or she is a human life, one worthy of receiving the love of a mother and father. And we rejoice in the knowledge that a family will receive this blessing into the world.
Have no doubts about this: Bristol Palin is brave. Braver than any of the hideous bloggers, hiding in their anonymity, who throw muck at her mother and who will doubtlessly revile her decision. Braver than the foes of the right to life who would offer her a knife and a vacuum to end this minor inconvenience. Brave enough to know that it's not enough to talk about doing the right thing - it's doing that right thing when the moment calls for it the most.
We thank her for making this choice now - her child will thank her forever.
We send our strongest prayers and best wishes for Bristol Palin, for her future husband, for her child, and for the entire Palin clan.

Pope John Paul II on women who work

from the Letter to Women, written in June 1995:
“Thank you, women who work! You are present and active in every area of life—social, economic, cultural, artistic AND POLITICAL (emphasis mine). In this way you make an indispensable contribution to the growth of a culture which unites reason and feeling, to a model of life ever open to the sense of “mystery,” to the establishment of economic and political structures ever more worthy of humanity. . . . Thank you, every woman, for the simple fact of being a woman! Through the insight which is so much a part of your womanhood you enrich the world’s understanding and help to make human relations more honest and authentic.”
“Women’s dignity has often been unacknowledged and their prerogatives misrepresented; they have often been relegated to the margins of society and even reduced to servitude. This has prevented women from truly being themselves and it has resulted in a spiritual impoverishment of humanity.”
“Women will increasingly play a part in the solution of the serious problems of the future: leisure time, the quality of life, migration, social services, euthanasia, drugs, health care, the ecology, etc. In all these areas a greater presence of women in society will prove most valuable, for it will help to manifest the contradictions present when society is organized solely according to the criteria of efficiency and productivity, and it will force systems to be redesigned in a way which favors the processes of humanization which mark the “civilization of love.”
“It is thus my hope, dear sisters, that you will reflect carefully on what it means to speak of the “genius of women,” not only in order to be able to see in this phrase a specific part of God’s plan which needs to be accepted and appreciated, but also in order to let this genius be more fully expressed in the life of society as a whole, as well as the life of the Church.”

I believe that Sarah Palin has already expressed the "genius of women" by cleaning up the corruption and waste in Alaska's politics, and running a honest, responsive state governement and winning an 80-90% approval rating from her constituency. She has expressed the feminine genius in her personal life by being the proud mother of five, including her son Trig with Down syndrome. She considers him a gift, and seems to be doing a fine job juggling her family and political responsibilities. I believe Sarah Palin is the type of woman our Holy Father had in mind when he wrote this letter.

The new face of feminism: Governor Sarah Palin

I celebrated with Governor Palin in April of this year when she gave birth to Trig, her son with Down syndrome (see link). I hoped that McCain had the class and common sense to choose here as his VP running mate. Now, I'm speechless with joy. Sarah Palin is perfect in every way, pro-life, pro-family, great mom to five children including a special needs child, a moral beacon in corrupt Alaska politics, an avid outdoors woman who knows how important oil is, and just an outstanding role model for women in power. And she's beautiful too, better looking at 44 after 5 births than she was as second runner up to Miss Alaska!
This is the new face of feminism, folks. No more angry women who fear their own femininity, and try to out-man the men. True feminists embrace the beauty of femininity without shying away from positions of power.

Biden's bishop bans his speaking at Catholic schools

Senator Joe Biden won't be able to address Catholic schools in Bishop Saltarelli's diocese of Wilmington, DE even if he wins the election and becomes Vice President.
In that document Bishop Saltarelli notes that, in line with the US Bishops Conference policy, "Our Catholic institutions will not honor Catholic politicians who take pro-abortion legislative positions or invite them to speak at our functions or schools."

Pro-life Counter Demonstration near DNC

from Family Research Council
Despite the strong pro-abortion positions of the Democratic platform and the party's imminent nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, pro-life voices are anything but silent in Denver during this week's Democratic convention. Last night, FRC Action's own Peter Sprigg joined several thousand people in Denver's Martin Luther King Park for a pro-life rally, followed by a peaceful prayer march around a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility that targets minorities.

Featured speakers included Dr. Alveda King, niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who declared that life is "the civil rights issue of our day." Also featured was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Denver, Charles Chaput, author of a just-published book on the relationship between religion and politics titled Render unto Caesar. Young people in the crowd-those born after the 1973 Supreme Court decision-wore t-shirts declaring, "I Survived Roe v. Wade." At the Democrats' official interfaith prayer gathering on Sunday, the crowd reportedly went silent when the keynote speaker, Bishop Charles E. Blake of the Church of God in Christ, expressed the "moral and spiritual pain so many of us feel because of this disregard for the lives of the unborn." Sen. Robert Casey (D-Penn.), who speaks at the convention tonight, calls himself pro-life-we hope that his message tonight will be strongly and comprehensively pro-life one.

Cardinal Egan stands up to Nancy Pelosi

This is like the good old days; a New York City Cardinal telling a CINO (Catholic in Name Only) she must recant her pro-abortion position! It reminds me of Cardinal John O'Connor and Geraldine Ferraro and Mario Cuomo. Well done, Cardinal Egan!
The Cardinal went on to strongly denounce Pelosi's pro-abortion position: "No one with the slightest measure of integrity or honor could fail to know what these marvelous beings manifestly, clearly, and obviously are, as they smile and wave into the world outside the womb.""Anyone who dares to defend that they may be legitimately killed because another human being 'chooses' to do so or for any other equally ridiculous reason should not be providing leadership in a civilized democracy worthy of the name," concluded Cardinal Egan.

Huckabee for McCain's VP?

There's no indication that Huckabee is being considered, so consider this idle speculation like the Hillary chatter prior to Obama's pick. But wouldn't Huckabee make a lot of sense given the things we've learned the last two weeks?
Huckabee would be an excellent choice of Vice President, it would show conservatives that McCain is seriously pro-life.

For those of you who admired Chinese society during the Olympics

Yes, Obama, I mean you! A Chinese bishop was detained just before the end of the Olympics. I suppose he posed a threat to the organized, unified image of Chinese society so admired by our gullible Presidential Candidate. Bet this won't be on his radar.
Security agents detained an elderly bishop of an underground Catholic church in northern China hours before the closing of the Olympic Games, a U.S.-based group said Monday.
Bishop Julius Jia Zhiguo, 73, of Zhengding, a city in northern Hebei province, was taken by six government officials from his cathedral on Sunday morning, the Cardinal Kung Foundation said in a statement.

Archbishop Chaput: Deny Biden Communion

On Monday morning in Denver, where the Democratic National Convention is underway, Archbishop Charles Chaput told the Associated Press that because of support for abortion, Biden should refrain from taking Communion. During his tenure in the senate, Joe Biden has voted numerous times in support of abortion and has characterized himself as a strong supporter of Roe v. Wade.
He is joined in his opinion by Fr. Frank Pavone, George Weigel, Austin Ruse, and any other Catholic of conscience.
We must not take this slap in the face quietly!

Please consider making a committment to prayer and fasting to spare us from the moral poverty of an Obama-Biden regime. I shudder to think of what damage can be done to our nation if these men are given power.

Predsident Bush provides freedom of conscience for health care workers

The Bush administration proposed stronger job protections Thursday for doctors and other health care workers who refuse to participate in abortions because of religious or moral objections.
Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt says the new rules are not meant to end services.
Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt said health care professionals should not face retaliation from employers or from medical societies because they object to abortion.
"Freedom of conscience is not to be surrendered upon issuance of a medical degree," Leavitt said. "This nation was built on a foundation of free speech. The first principle of free speech is protected conscience."

This is a perfectly reasonable protection of Americans freedom of conscience. Naturally, Planned Parenthood Federation, who is not only America's largest provider of abortions but funded by your tax dollars, is suing.
